The Georgia State Panthers make the short trip to Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia, to face the Kennesaw State Owls on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on ESPN+. Georgia State enters at 0-1 after suffering a 31-20 loss to Memphis, while Kennesaw State is 1-0 following a 28-17 victory over Kent State. The current betting market has Kennesaw State favored by 7.5 points with the total at 51.5. Georgia State Shows Some Life Against Memphis

Georgia State couldn't finish the job against Memphis, but the Panthers were competitive for much of the 31-20 defeat. Georgia State generated 347 total yards and found enough offensive success to remain within striking distance before Memphis created separation late.

Cameron Wallace provided the biggest spark for Georgia State, rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown. Zach Gibson threw for 211 yards and a touchdown, giving the Panthers some balance between the passing and rushing attacks. Georgia State was able to create several sustained possessions but struggled to consistently finish those opportunities with touchdowns.

The defensive performance was less encouraging. Memphis produced more than 400 yards and found success both through the air and on the ground. Georgia State can't afford the same problems against a Kennesaw State offense that showed good balance in its opener. The Panthers also need to avoid falling behind early because Kennesaw State's rushing attack is well suited to protecting a lead.

Kennesaw State Opens With a Victory

Kennesaw State began its season with a 28-17 victory over Kent State, giving the Owls a positive start before returning home for this in-state matchup. Kennesaw State controlled significant stretches of the opener and produced enough explosive plays to create separation.

Amari Odom directed the offense efficiently, throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns while also contributing with his legs. Coleman Smith provided production on the ground, while Kennesaw State's offense demonstrated that it can attack a defense in multiple ways rather than relying exclusively on the quarterback run game.

The Owls' defense also delivered when necessary, limiting Kent State to 17 points and preventing the Golden Flashes from mounting a serious fourth-quarter comeback. Kennesaw State now returns home with an opportunity to start 2-0 against a Georgia State team that has struggled defensively going back to last season.

Georgia St. vs Kennesaw St. Picks and Prediction

Pick: Georgia State +7.5

Georgia State +7.5 is my preferred side. Kennesaw State deserves to be favored at home, but getting more than a touchdown provides value with a Georgia State team that showed enough offensive production against Memphis to remain competitive. The Panthers generated 347 yards against a quality opponent and should find this defensive matchup more manageable. Kennesaw State has the better path to winning the game, but laying more than a touchdown in an in-state matchup feels expensive. Take Georgia State +7.5.

Pick: Over 51.5

The Over 51.5 is my preferred total. Georgia State scored 20 points and generated 347 yards against Memphis, while Kennesaw State reached 28 points in its opener. The Panthers' defensive vulnerabilities give the Owls a realistic path into the upper 20s or low 30s, while Georgia State has enough offensive production to contribute. A game around 30-24 or 31-24 clears the number without requiring a complete shootout. Take Over 51.5.

Final Picks: Georgia State +7.5 and Over 51.5
