After beginning the year with a comfortable victory, Georgia dismantled Western Kentucky 70-20 in Athens. The Bulldogs have once again shown the ability to overwhelm opponents with their depth, physicality and balance rather than relying on one phase of the game to carry them.

The 70-point performance against Western Kentucky was especially encouraging offensively. Georgia controlled the matchup from the beginning and turned a significant talent advantage into points rather than allowing the underdog to hang around. That matters when evaluating a potentially large road spread because Georgia has demonstrated that it can continue extending margins once it establishes control.

Saturday represents a considerably different challenge. Fayetteville is a difficult SEC road environment, and Georgia can't approach Arkansas like another nonconference tune-up. However, the Bulldogs possess major advantages on both lines of scrimmage, and their defense should be capable of creating the same problems Utah presented Arkansas. If Georgia establishes the running game and forces the Razorbacks to consistently operate in obvious passing situations, the Bulldogs should gradually take control.

Arkansas Needs a Major Response at Home

Arkansas opened the season with a 31-14 victory over North Alabama, giving the Razorbacks a successful start under their new coaching staff. That result provided some early optimism, but the trip to Utah offered a much more revealing indication of how Arkansas compares with nationally ranked opposition.

The Razorbacks were beaten 43-10 by No. 20 Utah, and that result creates obvious concerns with Georgia coming to Fayetteville one week later. Arkansas went from facing one of the stronger teams on its schedule directly into a matchup against a Georgia program that entered the season as the SEC favorite. The level of difficulty doesn't decrease, and Arkansas now has to find answers quickly after being held to only 10 points.

Home field should help Arkansas compete emotionally in the opening stages, and an early turnover or explosive play could keep the crowd involved. Over four quarters, however, the Razorbacks must prove they can consistently handle Georgia's physicality. After losing by 33 points to Utah, there isn't enough evidence yet to trust Arkansas against an opponent that appears even stronger.

Pick: Georgia -20.5 or Better

Take Georgia if the spread is -20.5 or better. Arkansas' 43-10 loss at Utah is difficult to overlook when evaluating this matchup. Georgia brings an even deeper roster and just scored 70 points in its final preparation game before SEC play. Fayetteville makes this more difficult than a neutral-field comparison suggests, but Georgia should eventually create separation. I would be considerably less interested once the spread moves beyond three touchdowns.

Pick: Under 54.5

Take the Under if the total is set at 54.5 or higher. Arkansas managed only 10 points against Utah, and Georgia's defense represents another major challenge. The Bulldogs don't necessarily need to turn this into another 70-point offensive performance to cover. A controlled Georgia victory in the neighborhood of 38-10 would cash both positions.
