Pride trying to figure things out
Hofstra is normally in the top half of the CAA, usually fighting for a title shot. Last year, they finished 6-12 in the league, so expect Speedy Claxton's team to get back on the winning track with two starters returning and a load of transfers coming in. But with new players come chemistry questions. Hofstra opened with losses at UCF 82-78 as a 9.5-point dog and an 81-73 defeat at Iona. They rebounded against a non-D1 when they beat D2 Molloy on Nov. 10 by 34. In their last game on Friday, they won at Bucknell, 83-77, covering as a 4.5-point favorite.
Freshman guard Preston Edmead scored 23 points and dished out five assists to lead the Pride against the Bison. Cruz Davis, one of the top returning players in the conference, adds 18 points and five assists. Davis started his career at Iona, moved on to St. John's, then last season averaged 14.4 points per game and shot 38.8% from long range for Hofstra. This season, he's averaging 18 points and 5.0 assists per game. Hofstra is shooting 45.9% from the field, but just 68.5% from the line and 31.2% from long range. KenPom has the Pride at 149th overall and 126th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency.
Owls' Winning Streak Snapped
Temple opened the season with easy wins over Del State (83-65) and La Salle (90-63). But on Nov. 15, they met Boston College at home and fell 76-71 as a 3.5-point favorite. Adam Fisher's team was 17-15 overall and 9-9 in the AAC last season. They lost a lot of talent, including guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., who averaged 22 points per game last year and is currently in the NBA G League. In their loss to BC, 6-3 guard Derrian Ford led the way with 18 points and nine boards, while Gavin Griffiths added 16 points.

KenPom has them at 120th overall, 98th in Adjusted Offense, and 165th in Adjusted Defense. They also have a strength of schedule rating of 336th.
Hofstra vs. Temple Prediction
Spread Pick for Hofstra vs Temple
- Hofstra -5.5 (4 units)
Temple isn't a great defensive team, and they are facing a high-scoring Hofstra squad that is averaging 78 points per game against Division I teams. The Owls are allowing teams to shoot 34% from beyond the arc. The Pride have played three of their four games on the road, so going to Philadelphia is not that big of a deal. Davis is an excellent player, and their strong backcourt will keep them in this game.
- Over 146 (4 units)
When it comes to tempo, neither team is super fast. But when it comes to defense, both squads have issues. Hofstra has gone over in all three games with lines. Last year was a low-scoring one from Hempstead, but I just don't see either team slowing it down that much or struggling from the field. Temple is averaging 81.3 points per game thus far.
