Warhawks start season strongly
Louisiana - Monroe (1-0) blanked FCS St. Francis (Pa) in Week 1 to start its season on a positive note. The Warhawks came out 29-0 winners in the program’s first shutout win in a decade, with D’Arco Perkins McAllister taking center stage. The defensive back picked up five solo tackles, three assists and two sacks to win the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, helping the Warhawks restrict their opponents to just 131 total yards on offense and seven first downs.
Braylon McReynolds rushed for 113 yards on 11 carries to lead the Warhawks against an FCS opponent. They wil have a big step up in competition against an angry Alabama team this week.

‘Bama bruised after Week 1
The 2025 season could not have started worse for Alabama (0-1). The Crimson Tide were shocked by Florida State 34-17, its first non-conference loss since 2007 and one which puts more pressure on the shoulders of second-year head coach Kalen DeBoer. Quarterback Ty Simpson looked decent, albeit a bit wayward, completing 23-43 attempts for 254 yards and two TDs; but the ‘Bama defense was ripped to shreds on the ground and gave up 230 rushing yards, with all of Florida State’s four scores coming via the running game.
They may also be without the services of star receiver Ryan Williams, who sustained a possible concussion in the fourth quarter against Florida State. If he can't go, Alabama will lean on Germie Bernard, who caught eight passes for 146 yards against the Seminoles.
UL Monroe vs. Alabama Pick
Spread Pick for UL Monroe vs. Alabama
- Alabama -37.5 (4 units)
The Crimson Tide had a rough outing last week, but I am backing them to come back fighting with a big win over the Warhawks. UL Monroe went 2-4 ATS last year as the away underdog. The school played one game last year against ranked opponents and went down by 48 points to Texas. Alabama put up a 5-2 record ATS in 2024 while playing at home.
Take Alabama.
Over/Under Pick for UL Monroe vs. Alabama
- Over 50.5 (5 units)
In spite of their strong showing against inferior opposition in Week 1, defense has been an issue for UL Monroe and if Alabama can take advantage, this game looks good to finish on the over. Last year, the Warhawks allowed an average of 28.8 points per game, ranking 93rd in NCAAF. They met SEC teams twice in 2024, giving up 51 points to Texas and 48 points to Auburn. Alabama had its own defensive troubles against Florida State as that game finished on the over. Last year 'Bama went 4-3 on the over at home and 3-2 in non-conference games.
Take the over.
