Can Louisiana get back to .500?
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns started the season strong, but after some tough losses, they bounced back with a win last week as they now sit in fourth place in the Sun Belt West standings. This season, the Rajin' Cajuns offense has been solid, as they rank in the top 120 in college football across the board, but with no standout strength on either side of the board, they'll need to grind their way to a victory in this matchup.
Unfortunately for Louisiana, their QB play this season has been less than stellar, with three quarterbacks combining for a 3/5 TD/INT ratio, but with a run game that's produced 13 touchdowns, they've got some strength to lean on offensively. Last time out for the Rajin' Cajuns was a shootout win over the Marshall Thundering Herd, with five scores on the ground leading the way offensively as they picked up the massive 54-51 despite having fewer yards and more turnovers than their opponents. QB Daniel Beale completed 7 of 15 for 72 yards and threw two picks.
Freshman QB Lunch Winfield also played against Marshall, throwing for 125 yards and two touchdowns in his most extensive action of the season. Winfield should be the starter now, but he's dealing with an undisclosed injury after being banged up at the end of the Marshall game.
Can James Madison build on their lead in the Sun Belt?
The James Madison Dukes come into this matchup on the back of three straight victories, and with a perfect 2-0 record at home this year with a point differential of +60 in that time, they come into this one as a very confident favorite. Offensively, the Dukes rank 11th in the NCAA in rushing yards per game, and with the defense giving up just 217 points a game, they've certainly found their path to success and have continued on consistently throughout the 2025 campaign.
Under center, JMU has potentially found a star in junior Alonza Barnett III, who has put together a 4/1 TD/INT ratio, and with the team putting up 13 TD's of their own on the ground, they've put together one of the most balanced offenses in College Football. Barrett is completing 58.6% of his passes for 667 yards with four TDs and just one pick. Wayne Knight leads the Dukes with 426 yards rushing and four TDs (7ypg).
Last time out for the Dukes was a low-scoring victory over Georgia State, and while they only had 74 yards through the air, they had over 200 yards on the ground as they picked up the very tight 14-7 win as they held their opponents to just 249 yards.
Louisiana vs. James Madison pick
Moneyline pick for Louisiana vs. JMU
- James Madison -17.5 (5 units)
These two teams have not met in school history, but with the way things have gone this season, it's easy to see why the Dukes are a clear favorite, as they've dominated on both sides of the ball, especially coming into this one on the back of three straight victories.
On top of that, Louisiana has been absolutely dominated in their two games played on the road this season, and with James Madison having fantastic balance on both sides of the ball, they should pick up another statement-making victory in this one.
Over/under pick for Louisiana vs. James Madison
- Over 45.5 (4 units)
At times this season, the offense for both of these teams has been absolutely dominant, and with both teams scoring just under three TD's a game on the ground, expect this one to see plenty of points scored.
For the Ragin' Cajuns, the over sits at 4-1 in 2025, with 30 or more points allowed in their last three games, and for the Dukes, the over comes in at 2-3 this season, with the team scoring 80 points in their two games played at home to this point.
Keep it simple, take the over.
