Louisiana Tech vs LSU Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 12 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/08/2026, 06:40 AM ET

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs travel to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face the No. 11 LSU Tigers on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on SEC Network+. Both teams enter at 1-0 after spectacular opening performances. Louisiana Tech destroyed Northwestern State 80-6, while LSU overwhelmed Clemson 51-10. LSU is currently favored by 32.5 points with the total set at 55.5. Before placing your wagers, check out our free college football picks for more predictions throughout the season.

Louisiana Tech Scores 80 in Historic Opener

Louisiana Tech couldn't have scripted a more explosive beginning to its season. The Bulldogs crushed Northwestern State 80-6, scoring their most points since becoming a Division I football program.

Louisiana Tech led 21-3 after the first quarter and then erupted for 42 points in the second quarter, taking a staggering 63-3 advantage into halftime. The Bulldogs added another 14 points during the third quarter before emptying the bench.

The performance demonstrated Louisiana Tech's offensive depth and explosiveness, but the opponent must be considered. Northwestern State isn't remotely comparable to what the Bulldogs will encounter in Tiger Stadium.

Still, scoring 80 points provides confidence entering Baton Rouge. Louisiana Tech isn't arriving simply hoping to survive after showing it can create explosive plays and finish drives. That could become important against an LSU team coming off an emotional marquee victory.

LSU Crushes Clemson in Kiffin Debut

LSU's first game under Lane Kiffin couldn't have gone much better. After a lengthy weather delay, the Tigers dominated Clemson 51-10 in Baton Rouge and handed Dabo Swinney the largest defeat of his Clemson tenure.

LSU controlled the game in all three phases after Clemson briefly took an early lead. The Tigers consistently created explosive offensive opportunities and prevented Clemson from developing any sustained rhythm.

The 41-point margin is particularly impressive considering Clemson entered as a nationally ranked opponent with substantial expectations. LSU didn't merely survive its openerβ€”it looked like one of the country's most complete teams.

The challenge this week is emotional rather than physical. Louisiana Tech doesn't carry Clemson's profile, and LSU has a road trip to Ole Miss coming next. Kiffin will want his team sharp, but once LSU establishes control, there is little reason to expose starters unnecessarily.

Louisiana Tech vs LSU Picks and Prediction

Pick: Louisiana Tech +32.5

Louisiana Tech +32.5 is my preferred side. LSU could easily dominate this game, but we're getting more than four touchdowns with a Louisiana Tech team that just scored 80 points. The biggest concern for LSU backers is game state. If the Tigers establish a comfortable lead, Kiffin has every reason to rotate heavily ahead of SEC play. Louisiana Tech's offense should be capable of producing enough late points to threaten a backdoor cover. Take Louisiana Tech +32.5.

Pick: Over 55.5

The Over 55.5 is my preferred total. LSU just scored 51 against Clemson, while Louisiana Tech produced 80 in its opener. Obviously neither number should be projected directly into this matchup, but both offenses demonstrated that they can create explosive scoring sequences. LSU could reach the low-to-mid 40s, which would leave Louisiana Tech needing only a couple of touchdowns to get us past the number. Take Over 55.5.

Final Picks: Louisiana Tech +32.5 and Over 55.5
