Can Louisville continue its climb to the top of the ACC?

The 16 Louisville Cardinals have been one of the most consistent teams in the NCAA this season on both sides of the ball, and although they've played just two games away from home, they're 2-0 in that time, including a statement win over the 2-ranked Miami Hurricanes just two weeks ago. Offensively, the Cardinals are one of the most balanced teams in the country, averaging 413 yards a game this season, and with the team ranking top-35 in the country in passing yards, it's easy to see where their success has come from, with the defense holding up their end of the bargain too, ranking 14th in the nation in yards allowed per game.

Louisville's success is driven by senior QB Miller Moss, who has a solid 10/5 TD/INT ratio to go along with six rushing touchdowns on the year, and with two backs having four scores each, this is a team that's found some immense balance. Last time out for the Cardinals was a big victory over Boston College, with the team rushing for a ridiculous 317 yards on the day as their defense forced three turnovers and limited their opponents to 360 yards as they came away winners 38-24. Issac Brown led the way with an incredible 205 yards on 14 carries. He leads the team with 652 yards rushing and has a per carry average of 8.7.

The Cards' defense is allowing just 105.3 yards per game on the ground and 86.8 yards per game in the ACC. They also rank 13th in the nation in yards allowed per game at 286.3.

Can Virginia Tech secure an ACC upset?

The Virginia Tech Hokies have shown plenty of promise this season, but after a rough start to the year, they've dropped two of their last three games as they've fallen to ninth place in the ACC behind a 2-2 record in conference play. While the Hokies are solid on both sides of the ball, they don't have a major strength to lean on to lead them to victories. With the team scoring 25 points a game and allowing 30, they've simply not given themselves any chance to build major momentum this season.

Quarterback has been a position of success for Virginia Tech, with senior Kyron Drones tossing 14 scores to start the 2025 campaign, and on the ground, he's accounted for seven of the team's nine touchdowns as they've failed for major success in the run game. Last time out for the Hokies was a tight win over the California Golden Bears, with Drones accounting for a total of five touchdowns as the team came away winners in dramatic overtime circumstances 42-34.

Drones rushed for 137 yards on 21 carries, while RB Marcellus Hawkins led the way with 167 yards on 21 attempts. For Virginia Tech to continue to have success, the Hokies have to run the football. In four ACC games, they are averaging 231 yards per game rushing.

Philip Montgomery has done a nice job as in interim coach, taking over for Brent Pry. The Hokies have gone 3-2 since Pry was dismissed.

Louisville Cardinals vs. Virginia Tech Hokies picks

Moneyline pick for Louisville vs. Virginia Tech

  • Louisville -10.5 (5 units)

While the Virginia Tech Hokies have played well against conference opponents this season, the Louisville Cardinals have played well against any opponent, going 2-0 on the road this year, with their only loss being a three-point defeat to a ranked opponent.

On top of that, Louisville has one of the top defensive units in the nation, and with their immense balance on offense, expect them to dominate this one as they continue to climb the rankings this season.

Over/under pick for Louisville vs. Virginia Tech

  • Under 55.5 (4 units)

On paper, both of these offenses can be very good, but the last time they met back in 2023, there was a total of just 37 points scored, with the Louisville Cardinals holding their opponents to less than 300 yards a game this year.

For the Cardinals, the under sits at 5-5 in their last 10 overall games, with 27 or less points allowed in six of their seven games this season, and for the Hokies, the under comes in at 5-5 in their past 10, with just 31 points scored in two games against ranked opponents in 2025.

Keep it simple, take the under.
