LSU vs Ole Miss Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 19 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/13/2026, 11:21 PM ET

The No. 7 LSU Tigers travel to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, to face the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in one of the biggest games of Week 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET with national coverage on ABC. Both teams enter their SEC opener at 2-0. LSU demolished Clemson 51-10 before beating Louisiana Tech 45-14, while Ole Miss followed its dramatic 41-38 victory over Louisville with a 41-9 rout of Charlotte. LSU is currently a 3-point road favorite with the total set at 58.5. Be sure to check out our free college football picks for more NCAAF predictions throughout the season.

LSU Has the Stronger Defensive Profile

LSU's 2-0 record includes one of the most impressive victories anywhere in college football. The Tigers opened by crushing Clemson 51-10 in Baton Rouge, immediately establishing themselves as a serious national contender. Their Week 2 performance wasn't nearly as clean, but LSU still eventually pulled away from Louisiana Tech for a 45-14 victory.

The Louisiana Tech game provided a useful warning. LSU led only 10-7 at halftime and committed three interceptions before its talent advantage eventually took over. The Tigers dominated the second half and turned the final score into another blowout, but those first-half mistakes would be much more damaging against Ole Miss.

Defense remains the primary reason to trust LSU. The Tigers have allowed only 24 points through two games despite facing Clemson in the opener, and they now take that unit into their first road test. Ole Miss has considerably more offensive firepower than Louisiana Tech, but LSU has already demonstrated that it can suffocate a high-profile opponent. If the Tigers protect the football, their defense gives them the higher floor.

Ole Miss Has Been Consistently Dangerous Offensively

Ole Miss is also 2-0 and has scored exactly 41 points in each of its first two games. The Rebels opened with a thrilling 41-38 victory over Louisville in Nashville, winning on a field goal as time expired, before returning to Oxford and dismantling Charlotte 41-9.

Saturday's victory was considerably cleaner than the opener. Ole Miss built a 27-0 halftime lead and was never seriously threatened, allowing the Rebels to address some of the defensive problems that appeared against Louisville. That improvement was important because LSU represents an enormous step up from Charlotte.

Vaught-Hemingway Stadium gives Ole Miss a meaningful advantage in what should be one of Saturday's best environments. The Rebels have shown more offensive consistency than LSU through two games, but they haven't faced anything resembling LSU's defense. The question is whether their explosive offense can force LSU into the higher-scoring game Ole Miss would prefer.

LSU vs Ole Miss Picks and Prediction

Pick: LSU -3

Take LSU -3. Ole Miss is dangerous at home and has scored 41 points in both games, but LSU owns the most impressive result between these teams with its 51-10 destruction of Clemson. The Tigers have also allowed only 24 total points and possess the defensive profile I trust more when the competition rises. LSU needs to clean up the turnovers from the Louisiana Tech game, but at exactly a field goal I'm willing to lay the points.

Pick: Under 58.5

Take the Under 58.5. Ole Miss has produced two high-scoring games, but LSU's defense changes the matchup significantly. The Tigers held Clemson to 10 and Louisiana Tech to 14, and their best strategy on the road is preventing Ole Miss from creating the explosive rhythm it enjoyed against Louisville and Charlotte. Ole Miss also showed substantial defensive improvement Saturday. A projected LSU 30, Ole Miss 24 gives the Tigers the cover while keeping the game below the posted total.

Final Picks: LSU -3 and Under 58.5
