The UMass Minutemen are coming off a 47-7 loss on the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sept. 13. UMass struggled to get much of anything going as they recorded seven points on 119 total yards of offense (93 passing, 26 rushing). The team failed to convert on either third or fourth down throughout the day. The Minutemen only committed one penalty though for five yards, in the game.

The defense struggled brutally as the defensive-minded Hawkeyes were able to score 47 points, including 30 before halftime, on 435 total yards of offense (234 passing, 201 rushing). The Minutemen were unable to get stops on the ground as they allowed the Hawkeyes to run for 5.0 yards per rushing attempt. With 22 first downs allowed, UMass needs to improve on this side of the ball.
UMassβ offense has struggled to put up points regularly as they are tied for 132nd in the nation with just 14.3 points per game heading into this matchup. The defense has been one of the worst in the sport as they are allowing 38.7 points per game, ranking 130th in the sport. UMass will go with a new quarterback in redshirt freshman AJ Hairston as Utah transfer Brandon Rose has struggled with an injury and Yale transfer Grant Jordan has not produced a passing touchdown in three games.

Tigers Looking to Continue Dominating
The 20th-ranked Missouri Tigers are looking to continue their hot start after they won at home over the South Carolina Gamecocks 29-20. The defense looked better than expected as they were able to stay in the game and even held a lead going into the fourth quarter. The Tigers finished with 29 points for 456 yards (171 passing, 285 rushing). They nearly doubled up South Carolina with 29 total first downs and completely controlled possession, having the football for 35:17.
The defense allowed South Carolina to score 20 points on just 293 total yards of offense (302 passing, -9 rushing). The team could not sustain drives as they recorded just 15 total first downs by going 3-for-11 on third downs and failing to convert their only fourth-down opportunity. South Carolina could not establish any sense of a running game as they averaged -0.4 yards per rushing attempt.
The Missouri Tigers have been excelling offensively as they are 12th in college football with 46.0 points per game scored. Their defense has been playing at a similar level as their 16.8 points per game, against places them 35th in the nation. Massachusetts Minutemen vs. Missouri Tigers Pick
Spread Pick for Massachusetts vs. Missouri
- Missouri Tigers -43.5 (5 units)
The only hope that UMass has to cover the spread is the fact that Missouri can have a trap game with their next game being against the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, it is difficult to imagine the Minutemen getting much of anything offensively going against one of the best defensive programs in college football. Beau Pribula has been playing at an amazing level while running back Ahmad Hardy has 600 rushing yards for the Tigers, which is more than double the passing yards for Grant Jordan thus far. New quarterback Hariston is going to have a tough time against an SEC defense. sz Go with the Missouri Tigers to cover the spread in this matchup.fgtrf
Over/Under Pick for Massachusetts vs. Missouri
- UNDER 56.5 (4 units)
The Missouri Tigers are going to be able to score the football well, but I am not expecting much out of the UMass Minutemen on the offensive side of things. The quarterback position shows a significant difference as UMass has failed to record a passing touchdown through their first three games while Beau Pribula has eight passing touchdowns through his fourth game. The Minutemen are only converting on 10-of-36 (27.78%) of their third down chances while being 1-of-5 (20.0%) on fourth down, so extending drives one game after failing to convert on those downs feels like a bit of an issue. Take UNDER 56.5 POINTS as this feels like a game where the Minutemen are scoring 10 or fewer points.
