However, he stepped up in the running game as he had 21 rushing attempts for 115 yards (5.5 yards per carry) with a rushing touchdown.
Before kickoff: NCAAF predictions for Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders vs Nevada Wolf Pack in a clean snapshot.
Blue Raiders Looking for Win No. 1
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have struggled throughout the season and that was shown in Week 2 as they lost on the road to the Wisconsin Badgers 42-10. The team saw quarterback Nicholas Vattiato hold his own while passing the football. However, the team could not run the football as the team had 28 rushes for 33 yards (1.2 yards per carry) and did not find the end zone on the ground. The Blue Raiders couldn’t move the chains as a result as they recorded 14 first downs.
The defense of the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders could not get stops as they allowed Wisconsin to score 42 points on 436 total yards (283 passing, 153 rushing). The defense struggled to limit big plays as the Badgers posted 10.5 yards per pass and 4.9 yards per rush against them. One positive was the fact that Middle Tennessee was able to force a pair of turnovers (one interception, one fumble recovery). It will be intriguing to see how they look after such a rough showing on defense last week.
The offense for Middle Tennessee has been one of the weakest in college football to begin the season as their 12.0 points per game ranks them 126th in the country. Their defense has not been much better as they are tied for 128th in the sport with 38.0 points per game allowed up to this point.

Wolf Pack Howling for Success
The Nevada Wolf Pack are entering this game 1-1 on the year and were able to step up last week in their home opener against the Sacramento State Hornets 20-17. The team was able to overcome some shaky play by quarterback Chubba Purdy, but moved the ball down the field well as the team averaged 11.8 yards per pass and 3.6 yards per carry. With 270 rushing yards in the game, the team was able to control the line of scrimmage. The Wolf Pack were able to avoid allowing any sacks and really show their abilities to dominate.
The defense of the Wolf Pack really stepped up as they blanked the Hornets in the second half en route to the win. They had a pick-six by Jonathan Maldonado and recorded three sacks to apply pressure. Sacramento State could not move the ball on third down, converting just 2-of-12 tries. If the offense can pick up the slack, this team could be one to watch out for going forward.
Nevada’s offense needs to prove it can score a lot better as its 12.5 points per game ranks them 125th in the nation. The defense is struggling as well as they are currently tied for 113th in college football with 31.5 points per game allowed.

Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders vs. Nevada Wolf Pack Pick
Spread Pick for Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders vs. Nevada Wolf Pack
- Nevada Wolf Pack -9.5 (4 units)
If we are being honest, this is a spread that makes it a bit difficult to believe in for either side. However, Middle Tennessee’s inability to run the football effectively this season (1.5 yards per attempt) makes things difficult to believe in. Chubba Purdy has been ineffective in the passing game thus far, but has made himself a threat to gain yards on the ground. Neither team’s stats look good, but Nevada played Penn State in Week 1 while Middle Tennessee faced off against Wisconsin last week, two programs significantly better than what we have in front of us. Nevada’s defense can apply pressure and I don’t believe in Middle Tennessee to score much so go with the Nevada Wolf Pack to win by 10+ points at home.
Over/Under Pick for Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders vs. Nevada Wolf Pack
- UNDER 48.5 (5 units)
This number is way too high to believe in. I understand the defenses look suspect at first glance but neither team has scored more than 20 points in a game this season, so believing in the offenses to put points on the board is difficult in itself. We discussed how Middle Tennessee is a one-dimensional offense already, but third downs have been tricky for these offenses. Middle Tennessee is 5-for-26 (19.23%) on conversions while Nevada is a respectable 8-for-23 (34.78%) thus far. All in all, go with UNDER 48.5 POINTS to be scored as the better option.
