Missouri State vs Marshall Picks and Prediction for Saturday, September 6, 2025

By: Robert Antuann Published 09/04/2025, 11:36 PM ET

We have an interesting battle of the winless programs taking place in nonconference action for Week 2 of the college football season as the Missouri State Bears will be heading to Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Saturday evening to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd in our Bears vs. Thundering Herd prediction. With the game airing on ESPN+, this game is going to be exciting. The Bears (0-1) are coming off a 73-13 road loss on Saturday against the USC Trojans while the Thundering Herd (0-1) are coming off a 45-7 road loss against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. Rivalries, tempo, trenches — NCAAF picks for Missouri State Bears vs Marshall Thundering Herd.

Bears Looking for First Win

The Missouri State Bears season has gotten off to a poor level as they are coming off a 73-13 road loss against the USC Trojans in their most recent game. Quarterback Jacob Clark had a rough game as he was going 16-of-24 for 147 passing yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions. The Bears were not able to run the ball as they had 29 rushing attempts for 65 yards (2.2 yards per carry).

The Bears were not able to get much offense going as they recorded 11 first downs throughout the game. Defensively, Missouri State was awful as they allowed 73 total points on 597 total yards. They could not get stops as USC converted on 6-of-7 third-down attempts against them.

Thundering Herd Looking

The Marshall Thundering Herd struggled in their most recent game as they lost on the road to the Georgia Bulldogs 45-7. The trio of quarterbacks combined to go just 11-of-21 for 129 yards without a touchdown or an interception.

While the running game was able to get going, the passing game took over. Wide receiver Justin Williams-Thomas led the way for Marshall as he recorded three receptions for 58 yards (19.3 yards per catch) but was not able to find the end zone. He was a main reason as to why the Thundering Herd were able to move the ball.

Marshall’s defense did a brutal job as they allowed Georgia to record 27 first downs throughout the 60 minutes. Their best ability was the fact that they committed six penalties for 42 yards.

Missouri State vs. Marshall Pick

Spread Pick for Missouri State vs. Marshall

  • Missouri State Bears +10.5 (4 units)

These teams are not doing too well as they were defeated by two of the better programs in college football last week. However, the gap between Missouri State and Marshall is not as wide as the spread indicates. Clark made a couple of mistakes with his passes, but Marshall’s passing game as a whole was underwhelming to say the least. Marshall also failed to record a single sack, meaning they could not apply pressure. All in all, go with the Missouri State Bears to cover the spread.

Over/Under Pick for Missouri State vs. Marshall

  • Under 56.5 (5 units)

These offenses did not show they can score, let alone move the football enough to sustain drives. There was not much of a passing game for either side last week, but granted they were facing USC and Georgia. The offenses should be better than last week but still not enough to score almost a point per minute. Expect this game to be closer to 50-52 points so take the under here.
