Missouri State vs Texas A&M Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 5 2026
Missouri State travels to College Station for a massive opening-week challenge against No. 8 Texas A&M at Kyle Field on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on ESPN. Both teams will be making their 2026 season debuts, with Texas A&M favored by approximately 40.5 to 41.5 points and the total sitting around 52.5. The Aggies are expected to win overwhelmingly, but the relationship between a spread above 40 points and a total barely above 50 makes the underdog worth considering. Missouri State Begins a New Era in College Station
Missouri State enters 2026 after going 7-6 during its first season as an FBS program, an encouraging debut that included a bowl appearance. The Bears now begin their first season under a new coaching staff, so opening at Kyle Field against the No. 8 team in the country represents about as difficult a debut as possible. Missouri State is also replacing important pieces from last year's offense and will have three new starters along the offensive line.
The Bears at least enter with an experienced option directing the offense. Their starting quarterback transferred in after making 16 starts at the FBS level, giving Missouri State some experience at the most important position. That's useful against a Texas A&M defense capable of overwhelming inexperienced offenses. Missouri State doesn't need to consistently drive 75 yards for touchdowns to cover this number, but it does need to avoid turnovers and three-and-outs that repeatedly hand the Aggies favorable field position.
The defensive front may be the bigger concern. Missouri State lost considerable experience from last year's defensive line, and that's a difficult weakness to carry into a matchup against an SEC opponent with Texas A&M's size and depth. The Bears could struggle more as the game progresses, but +41.5 gives them an enormous cushion. Missouri State can lose 42-7, 45-7 or even 48-10 and still cover. Reaching somewhere around 7-13 points would make Texas A&M's job considerably harder against the spread.
Texas A&M Opens With Playoff Expectations
Texas A&M enters 2026 ranked No. 8 after reaching the College Football Playoff for the first time last season. Expectations have therefore moved beyond simply producing another winning season. The Aggies are expected to compete near the top of the SEC and potentially return to the playoff, making Missouri State an opportunity to establish themselves before the schedule becomes substantially more difficult.
There has been some turnover along the offensive line, where four starters from last season were selected in the NFL Draft. Texas A&M attacked that issue through the transfer portal, but replacing that much established production can still require an adjustment period. Against Missouri State, the Aggies should possess enough physical talent to control the line anyway, but laying more than 40 points means even a few stalled possessions can become significant for bettors.
Defensively, Texas A&M should have an overwhelming advantage against a Missouri State offense breaking in several new pieces. The Aggies don't necessarily need their offense to score 50 if the defense consistently creates short fields and keeps the Bears off the scoreboard. The problem for Texas A&M bettors is the sheer size of the number. A 42-7 victory is complete domination and still fails to cover -41.5. Texas A&M could control every meaningful aspect of this game without rewarding anyone willing to lay six touchdowns.
Missouri State vs Texas A&M Picks and Prediction
Pick: Missouri State +41.5
I'm taking Missouri State +41.5. Texas A&M should dominate the physical matchup and win comfortably, but more than 40 points is an enormous number for an opening game. The Bears don't have to make this remotely competitive to cash. If Missouri State can produce even one or two scoring drives, the Aggies may need to push into the upper 40s or 50s to cover. Texas A&M is also replacing substantial experience along its offensive line, and there is little reason for the Aggies to aggressively chase additional touchdowns once the game is completely decided. Something around Texas A&M 42, Missouri State 7 represents a five-touchdown destruction and still cashes the Bears by 6.5 points. Take Missouri State +41.5.
Pick: Under 52.5
The Under 52.5 is my preferred play. The total and spread create an unusual relationship. If Missouri State struggles offensively as expected, Texas A&M may need to produce almost the entire total itself. A 42-7 result produces only 49 points. Even 45-7 reaches just 52. The biggest threat is Texas A&M creating defensive or special-teams scores that accelerate the game, but a conventional blowout where the Aggies build a huge advantage and then rotate extensively favors the Under. Take Under 52.5.
Final Picks: Missouri State +41.5 and Under 52.5
