The New Hampshire Wildcats travel to Syracuse to face the Orange on Saturday, September 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York, with ACC Network providing the television coverage. New Hampshire enters at 0-1, while Syracuse will make its 2026 season debut. The current market has Syracuse favored by 34.5 points with a total of 57.5. New Hampshire Gets a Massive Step Up

New Hampshire enters its second game of the season facing a substantial increase in competition. The Wildcats are receiving nearly five touchdowns, which illustrates the talent and depth difference the market expects.

The key for New Hampshire will be shortening the game. The Wildcats cannot afford turnovers or repeated three-and-outs that give Syracuse additional possessions. Long drives have value even when they don't produce touchdowns because they reduce Syracuse's opportunities to create separation.

New Hampshire's biggest challenge may come as the game progresses. Syracuse has the FBS depth advantage, and an FCS defense forced to remain on the field for extended stretches can eventually wear down.

From a betting perspective, however, +34.5 provides significant protection. New Hampshire doesn't need to seriously threaten an upset. The Wildcats simply need to prevent Syracuse from winning by five touchdowns.

Syracuse Has the Advantage but a Big Number to Cover

Syracuse gets an ideal home opener inside the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange should own advantages in size, speed and depth and are given an overwhelming probability of winning outright.

The question is whether Syracuse can generate enough separation to cover 34.5. That's a substantially different requirement from simply winning comfortably.

The Orange should have opportunities to control field position and wear down New Hampshire, but once the margin becomes substantial there is always the possibility of a more conservative second-half approach.

That becomes particularly important with a total approaching 60. Syracuse may have to provide most of the scoring if New Hampshire struggles offensively.

New Hampshire vs Syracuse Picks and Prediction

Pick: New Hampshire +34.5

New Hampshire +34.5 is my preferred side. Syracuse should control the game and win comfortably, but asking the Orange to win by 35 or more creates a considerably higher bar. A current betting model projects Syracuse to win by approximately 30 points, which would leave New Hampshire comfortably inside the number. The Wildcats only need enough offensive production to force Syracuse into the 40s before a cover becomes difficult. Something around Syracuse 41, New Hampshire 13 gives the Orange a dominant victory while cashing the underdog. Take New Hampshire +34.5.

Pick: Under 57.5

The same current model points toward Under 57.5, and I agree. Syracuse should provide most of the offense, but New Hampshire's scoring contribution is difficult to project high enough to justify a number approaching 60. Syracuse can completely dominate without this becoming a shootout. Scores such as 41-10, 42-7 or 38-13 all remain Under. Take Under 57.5.

Final Picks: New Hampshire +34.5 and Under 57.5
