North Dakota vs Nebraska Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 19 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/13/2026, 11:17 PM ET

The North Dakota Fighting Hawks travel to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 PM ET with coverage on Big Ten Network. This is one of the more intriguing FCS-FBS matchups of Week 3 because North Dakota is 3-0 and nationally ranked at the FCS level, while Nebraska is 2-0 after following a 49-21 victory over Ohio with a dominant 56-7 win over Bowling Green. Both teams enter with considerable offensive momentum. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. North Dakota Is Not an Ordinary FCS Opponent

North Dakota arrives in Lincoln at 3-0 and has been one of the most explosive teams in the FCS. The Fighting Hawks scored 62 points against St. Thomas before going on the road Saturday and beating Portland State 47-23. North Dakota led from beginning to end and produced a massive 627 yards of total offense.

The balance of that performance should get Nebraska's attention. North Dakota generated 336 yards through the air and another 291 on the ground, demonstrating that the Fighting Hawks aren't dependent on one method of moving the football. They have also repeatedly started quickly, which gives them a chance to make Nebraska uncomfortable if the Cornhuskers approach this matchup casually.

The obvious issue is the increase in size, speed and depth. North Dakota can dominate FCS competition without automatically being capable of doing the same thing against a Big Ten defense. Still, the Fighting Hawks are far more dangerous than the typical FCS opponent used as a September tune-up. Nebraska needs to treat this matchup seriously from the opening possession.

Nebraska Is Starting to Look Dangerous

Nebraska opened with a 49-21 victory over Ohio and then improved substantially in Week 2. The Cornhuskers overwhelmed Bowling Green 56-7, building a 35-0 halftime advantage and essentially ending the competitive portion of the game before the break. Nebraska has now scored 105 points through two games.

The defensive improvement was equally important. After allowing Ohio to score 21 in the opener, Nebraska held Bowling Green scoreless until the fourth quarter. The Falcons produced only 46 yards and two first downs during the first half, illustrating how completely the Cornhuskers controlled the matchup before beginning to rotate personnel.

North Dakota should provide considerably more resistance than Bowling Green did, particularly offensively. That makes this a useful final test before Nebraska begins dealing with Big Ten competition. The Cornhuskers should eventually exploit their advantage in depth, but North Dakota's 3-0 start and explosive offense make laying an enormous number more dangerous than the FCS label suggests.

North Dakota vs Nebraska Picks and Prediction

Pick: North Dakota +28.5 or Better

Take North Dakota if the Fighting Hawks are getting +28.5 or better. Nebraska should win, but North Dakota is a nationally ranked FCS team that just produced 627 yards in a 47-23 road victory. The Fighting Hawks have enough offense to contribute to the scoreboard, which becomes extremely valuable when getting four touchdowns or more. Nebraska can control this matchup without necessarily producing another 49-point margin.

Pick: Over 54.5

Take the Over if the total is set at 54.5 or lower. Nebraska has scored 49 and 56 points, while North Dakota has been producing points at an elite FCS level and just scored 47 on the road. The Cornhuskers could approach the 40s themselves, and North Dakota has considerably more offensive capability than Bowling Green showed last week. A projected Nebraska 42, North Dakota 20 gives the Fighting Hawks the cover while pushing the game Over.

Final Picks: North Dakota +28.5 or Better and Over 54.5
