Can Northwestern finish their season over .500?
The Northwestern Wildcats have shown immense flashes of talent throughout this season, but with a record of just 1-3 on the road this season as well as 4-4 in Big Ten conference play, they've not managed to find the necessary consistency needed to be a contending team. While the Wildcats' offense has been respectable this season, they average just 21.9 points a game, but with a defense that holds their opponents to 19.6, they've continued to give themselves a chance in every game, win or lose.
Under center has been the same story of inconsistency for Northwestern, with Preston Stone tossing 13 Touchdowns while throwing nine interceptions, with running back Caleb Komolafe leading the way on the ground with an impressive 10 rushing scores. Last time out for the Wildcats was a tight win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, with 305 yards in the air and 220 on the ground leading an offensive breakout as they held their opponents to just 323 yards, leading to the 38-35 victory.
Can Illinois finish a solid season on the right note?
The Illinois Fighting Illini won five of their first six games this season, but with the team struggling as of late, they look to build on their 5-1 home record and finish their season on a very strong note after showing so much promise throughout the year. Offensively, the Fighting Illini rank top 50 in the NCAA across the board, averaging 32 points a game thus far in 2025, and with a defense that holds their opponents to just 24 points a game, they may look at their current 7-4 record with overall disappointment.
The story of Illinois' season thus far has been QB Luke Altmyer, who has thrown an impressive 21 Touchdowns to just five interceptions, with 18 total scores on the ground, giving this offense immense balance throughout the season. Last time out for the Fighting Illini was a tough loss on the road to Wisconsin, with just 50 yards on the ground stagnating their offense as they came up short 27-10, despite having just three fewer overall yards than the Badgers.
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Illinois Fighting Illini picks
Moneyline pick for Northwestern vs. Illinois
- Illinois -7.5 (4 units)
On paper, this is a very intriguing matchup between Big Ten rivals, but with Illinois posting a dominant 5-1 record at home this season against a team with just one road win, it's easy to see why they come in as very solid favorites to this matchup.
On top of that, the Illini have the much more consistent offense this season, and with that one big strength to lean on that Northwestern don't currently possess, this is a game that should see Illinois dominate at home.
Over/under pick for Northwestern vs. Illinois
- Over 42.5 (4 units)
When these two teams match up, the offense usually follows as the over sits at 6-4 in their last 10 head-to-head encounters, with a total of 66 points scored between them in their lone meeting last season.
For Northwestern, the over sits at 5-5 in their last 10 overall games, with 28 points allowed per game on the road this season, and for Illinois, the over comes in at 5-5 in their past 10, with 33 points a game scored across six home games in 2025.
Keep it simple, take the over.
