Can Northwestern finish their season over .500?
The Northwestern Wildcats have shown immense flashes of talent throughout this season, but with a record of just 1-3 on the road this season as well as 4-4 in Big Ten conference play, they've not managed to find the necessary consistency needed to be a contending team. While the Wildcats' offense has been respectable this season, they average just 21.9 points a game, but with a defense that holds their opponents to 19.6, they've continued to give themselves a chance in every game, win or lose.
Under center has been the same story of inconsistency for Northwestern, with Preston Stone tossing 13 Touchdowns while throwing nine interceptions, with running back Caleb Komolafe leading the way on the ground with an impressive 10 rushing scores. Offensively, the Fighting Illini rank top 50 in the NCAA across the board, averaging 32 points a game thus far in 2025, and with a defense that holds their opponents to just 24 points a game, they may look at their current 7-4 record with overall disappointment.
The story of Illinois' season thus far has been QB Luke Altmyer, who has thrown an impressive 21 Touchdowns to just five interceptions, with 18 total scores on the ground, giving this offense immense balance throughout the season. Last time out for the Fighting Illini was a tough loss on the road to Wisconsin, with just 50 yards on the ground stagnating their offense as they came up short 27-10, despite having just three fewer overall yards than the Badgers.
