Alabama riding high
The wave keeps on cresting for the Crimson Tide, winners of eight straight games and one of only two undefeated teams in SEC play. They had their best defensive effort in conference play last weekend, with the 9 points allowed the second fewest in a game this season.
Scoring has been down for the Tide over their last four games, with the team averaging 28.3 points per game in that stretch. Their scoring offense ranks eighth in the SEC, averaging 32.8 points per game. In the yardage department, Bama is gaining 403.1 yards each week, also eighth in the conference. They have the third-best passing attack with 291.2 yards each game. Ty Simpson threw for 277 yards versus LSU, his third straight game with over 250 passing yards and no interceptions. Oklahoma vs. Alabama Picks
Spread Pick for Oklahoma vs. Alabama
- Oklahoma +6 (4 units)
These two storied programs have met only seven times through the years. Oklahoma owns a 4-2-1 SU advantage in the head-to-head series, including a 21-point win in their first meeting as conference rivals last season. Oklahoma is 3-0 SU and ATS on the road this season and had a week to line this one up. The Sooners’ best option would be to attack Alabama on the ground, but they don’t have a sound enough attack to do enough damage on that front. They do have a strong enough passing attack to move forward and get into scoring position, though that is easier said than done versus Bama, who is 5-0 SU and ATS at home this season. The good thing for the visitors is that their passing defense can match the Tide’s efforts and slow that offense down. Bama will likely not be able to establish any running game either. Oklahoma is 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS in the last three meetings between the teams.
Take the Sooners, getting the points.
Over/Under Pick for Oklahoma vs. Alabama
- Under 46 (5 units)
This matchup features two of the top three defenses in the SEC. In last season’s meeting, the teams combined for 27 points. With just three games to play, things are getting tight and teams are getting more bruised and battered on top of it. The Sooners’ offense has been down in the scoring department, and they’ve scored 26 points or less in three of their last four games, including a six-point effort against Texas, the second-best defense in the conference, at home. Alabama’s offense has also been scoring less of late and is coming off of their lowest offense output since the season opener. The under is 2-1 in the last three games between these two teams and 12-6 between the teams this season.
Take the under.
