Cowboys still look non-competitive as season drags on
The Oklahoma State Cowboys aren't the worst team in the FBS this season, but it isn't a long drop from them to the bottom. They're 1-7 overall and 0-5 against Big 12 opponents, with their only win coming in Week 1 against FCS UT-Martin. They're a month removed from their split with head coach Mike Gundy, who'd led the team for 21 years, after the Cowboys lost 45-27 against Baylor and dropped to 1-3. It's only been worse since then, with the Cowboys losing 41-13 at Arizona, 39-17 against Houston, 49-17 against No. 24 Cincinnati, and 42-0 at No. 14 Texas Tech.
Oklahoma State gained only 182 yards and nine first downs on offense against Texas Tech, committed two turnovers, and lost 48 yards on six penalties. The game started with Texas Tech returning the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown–their first of three touchdowns in the first quarter. Oklahoma State punted away six of their eight first-half possessions, ending the other two in a turnover on downs and a fumble that the Red Raiders returned for their fourth touchdown. Sam Jackson V and Noah Walters combined to complete 14 of 31 passes for 87 yards against Texas Tech, notching a 45.2 completion percentage and 2.8 yards per attempt. Red Raiders quarterbacks Mitch Griffis, Will Hammond, and Holden Phillips combined to go 19 of 29 for 282 yards and two touchdowns–five more completions on two fewer attempts for nearly 200 more yards.
Out of 136 FBS teams, Oklahoma State ranks 123rd in passing yards per game (161.6) and 132nd in points per game (14.5). Those numbers don't figure to get any better with their quarterback situation–Week 1 starter Hauss Hejny has long been sidelined with an injury. Zane Flores, who leads the team with 696 passing yards, is off the injury report after missing the Cowboys' last three games. That doesn't mean he'll start–Flores' completion and yards per attempt aren't any better than those of the other quarterbacks on the roster, and he'd thrown three interceptions and taken nine sacks without completing a touchdown pass before suffering his injury.

Kansas falls to KSU amidst rough weather, fumbles
The Kansas Jayhawks are 4-4 and 2-3 against Big 12 opponents heading into Week 10. They lost 42-17 on the road at Texas Tech in Week 7, took a bye in Week 8, and spent Week 9 losing 42-17 against Kansas State–their 17th straight loss in the Sunflower Showdown rivalry game.
A few numbers jump off the box score in this game, but none so much as the Jayhawks' four turnovers. Kansas opened the game by kicking off to Kansas State, recovering a fumble on the return, and driving 25 yards to start the game 7-0. Their next two possessions both ended in lost fumbles, the first of which Kansas State linebacker Ralph Ortiz returned for a touchdown. The Jayhawks' next drive went a yard backward in three plays before ending in a punt, and the Wildcats scored on their next possession to end the first quarter up 21-7. The conditions were rough, and both teams fumbled twice, but the Wildcats recovered one of theirs and didn't tack on two interceptions like the Jayhawks did.
Jalon Daniels completed 17 of 35 passes for 129 yards and an interception, took four sacks, and didn't complete a touchdown pass. Sophomore quarterback Cole Ballard threw two passes while playing out the string–he completed one of two for eight yards, with the other ending in another interception. The game marked Daniels' lowest yardage total of the season and only his second game without a touchdown–he's thrown 18 passing touchdowns this year, tied for the 11th-best mark among FBS quarterbacks. He'll look to bounce back in better conditions on Saturday, both in terms of the weather and the opposition that Oklahoma State figures to put up.
Oklahoma State vs. Kansas Pick
Spread Pick for Oklahoma State vs. Kansas
- Kansas -24.5 (-115) (4 Units)
It gets harder and harder each week to make a case for Oklahoma State, but especially for their offense. They failed to score at all last week against Texas Tech, and they haven't hit the 20-point mark in their last four games despite giving up over 40 points to four of their last five opponents. Their fifth opponent in that stretch–Houston–beat them 39-17. OSU is 1-7 against the spread, and they're over a month removed from when they covered against Baylor. Kansas isn't a world-beating operation, but their football team has a pulse.
Over/Under Pick for Oklahoma State vs. Kansas
- Under 55.5 (-115) (4 Units)
Hitting the over requires scoring points, and it's hard to project the Oklahoma State Cowboys doing that right now. Kansas has beaten Fresno State (31-7), FCS Wagner (46-7), West Virginia (41-10), and UCF (27-20) this season. Three of those four games saw Kansas win by over 20 points while fewer than 56 points were scored; I'd expect this game to follow a similar script.
