Kiffin rumors start again
Any time there's a big job that opens up, Lane Kiffin's name is usually mentioned. The 50-year-old coach was mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Billy Napier, who was just fired at Florida. Kiffin might want to eventually head to Gainesville, but right now, in Oxford, Kiffin would like to see his team bounce back after a 43-35 loss at Georgia on Saturday. That loss broke an 8-game winning streak going back to last season. If Ole Miss fails to reach the playoffs, this may be the game that does them in. They were up 35-26 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but allowed the Bulldogs to score two touchdowns and a field goal without scoring themselves. The defense gave up over 500 yards of total offense and 34 first downs, while the Rebels were dominated in time of possession, 37:39 to 22:21.
QB Trinidad Chambliss completed 19 of 36 for 263 yards with a TD and ran for 42 yards with two TDs to lead the Rebels. He is completing 62.7% of his passes for 1,549 yards with eight TDs and just one pick, while rushing for 322 yards with five TDs. Kewan Lacy leads Ole Miss with 618 yards rushing and 10 TDs (4.5ypc). The Rebels have four receivers with 305 yards or more receiving, led by Harrison Wallace III, who has 21 catches for 400 yards and two TDs.
On offense, the Rebels rank 8th in yards per game (491.9), 8th in passing yards per game (304.1) and 41st in rushing yards per game (187.7). They also rank 14th in third-down percentage at 51.7%. Defensively, they allow 362.3 yards per game (66th) and 195.6 yards per game passing (38th). They rank 58th in red zone defense (81.8%) and 118th in penalty yards per game with 69.

Sooners bounce back after loss to rival
Oklahoma beat the likes of Michigan and Auburn in their 5-0 start before falling at Texas 22-6 in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 11 from the Cotton Bowl. The offense and special teams struggled in that game as they allowed a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown and QB John Mateer, 17 days after having surgery on his right hand, was picked off three times. The Washington State transfer bounced back against South Carolina last week, throwing for 150 yards and a TD with no picks in Oklahoma's 26-7 win over South Carolina on the road. Mateer didn't need to put up prolific numbers because his ground game helped as Tory Blaylock rushed for 101 yards and a TD, while Xavier Robinson added 58 yards and a score. But it was the Sooners' defense that was the difference as they sacked South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers six times, picked him off once and had a safety.
Mateer has missed just one game due to a hand injury. He's completing 64.2% of his passes for 1,417 yards with six TDs and six picks. He's also a threat to run with 195 yards rushing and five TDs (3.4ypc). Blaylock leads an underwhelming running game (98th with 129.3ypg) with 290 yards with three TDs (4.3ypc). WR Isaiah Sategna III leads all receivers with 30 catches for 420 yards and three TDs.
On offense, the Sooners rank 74th in total offense (379ypg) and 52nd in passing yards per game (249.7ypg). Defensively, they rank first in the nation (213ypg) in total yards per game, 4th against the pass (132.6ypg), second in points allowed per game (9.4) and 4th against the run (80.4ypg). Oklahoma also ranks 116th in FBS with a -5 turnover margin.

Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma Pick
Spread Pick for Ole Miss Rebels vs. Oklahoma Sooners
- Ole Miss +5 (4 units)
I don't think the Lane Kiffin distractions are there just yet. What concerns me about Oklahoma is the health of Mateer, who has not played particularly well since returning from hand surgery. Oklahoma can't really beat you on the ground, even though they did well last week. Ole Miss will stack the box in this one and weather (there could be rain) could also have an impact in this game, with the Rebels owning the much better ground attack (188ypg to 129ypg). Chambliss, a D2 transfer from Ferris State, was making his first road start this season against Georgia and should be better acclimated in this game.
Total Pick for Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma
- Under 54.5 (5 units)
This should be the bigger play than the side. The weather may slow this game down, where both teams will be forced to run the football more in the rainy conditions. Oklahoma has been a big under team this season, going under in all seven games and is 8-0 Under going back to last season. Their defense is sensational as they've allowed 7 or less points in four of their seven games. I also don't trust that Mateer is 100% so Oklahoma will have to rely more on a subpar rushing attack.
