Can Beavers rebound from ugly Texas Tech loss?
The Oregon State Beavers are 0-3 heading into Week 4 of the 2025 college football season after losses to California (34-15), Fresno State (36-27) and Texas Tech (45-14). It's a tough way to open the season for any program, much less one only two years removed from a streak of three straight winning seasons and bowl berths. What's gone wrong for the Beavers in Year 2 with head coach Trent Bray?
In last week's loss to Texas Tech, the answer was everything. The Beavers' first three offensive drives all ended after three plays, across which they gained a net total of two yards. By the time they drove 46 yards to miss a field goal at the end of the first quarter, they were already down 0-14. Defensively, the Beavers allowed a touchdown to the Red Raiders on four of their first six drives, then allowed a score on the first three Red Raiders drives in the second half. Oregon State didn't get on the board until fewer than four minutes remained in the fourth quarter, when Texas Tech had already scored all of its 45 points.
Junior quarterback Maalik Murphy, playing for his third team in as many seasons, has yielded mixed returns in his first year in Corvallis. He finished the Texas Tech game having completed 25 of 44 passes (56.8%) for 281 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions – the second of which ended a drive that had advanced to the Texas Tech 11-yard line. For the season, Murphy's totalled 896 passing yards, a 61.6 completion percentage, six touchdowns, five interceptions, and six sacks taken. The Beavers have also been left wanting on defense, where the team has allowed 38.3 points per game – the eighth-worst mark in the FBS – and 424.3 yards per game. They've also only logged two sacks, making them one of only nine teams in the FBS with fewer than three sacks in three games played.

Will Oregon stay on top ahead of daunting conference schedule?
The Oregon Ducks enter Week 4 of the season with a 3-0 record, the sixth spot in the AP Top 25, and what should be an easily manageable meeting with Oregon State ahead of consecutive games against ranked teams in Penn State and Indiana. They're 2-1 against the spread after failing to cover 26.5 in their 34-14 win over Northwestern last week, and they'll enter their meeting with Oregon State at 35.5-point favorites. How will the Ducks handle their fourth straight game as an overwhelming favorite ahead of an expected difficulty spike in their schedule?
Oregon stifled Northwestern in their early conference matchup last week, taking their foot off the gas near the end in a game that wasn't as close as the 34-14 score made it look. The Ducks punted on their first possession of the game, but intercepted Northwestern quarterback Preston Stone on their first drive and proceeded to score on each of their next five drives, moving the ball. Northwestern didn't get a stop until the Ducks' first drive of the fourth quarter, at which point they were already up 31-0. Oregon pulled starters after the drive, letting Northwestern string together two long touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to end the game. The Ducks' rushing offense carried the day – freshman back Dierre Hill Jr. headlined the day with a 66-yard touchdown to open the first possession of the second half, and the unit finished with 176 yards and three touchdowns overall.
Oregon State vs Oregon Pick
Spread Pick for Oregon State vs Oregon
- Oregon State +35.5 (-115) (4 Units)
The Ducks have dominated their rivalry with the Beavers for a while, but the teams are split against the spread in their last ten meetings. Oregon was favored to win each of those ten games, but none by as many as 35.5 points. The Ducks are 2-1 against the spread this season, but covered -28.0 against Montana State in Week 1 and beat Oklahoma State 69-3 in Week 2 after Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy ruffled the Ducks' feathers with certain off-field comments about their program's budget. The Beavers haven't done anything off the field to invite the Ducks' wrath, and last week's 34-14 win over Northwestern suggests that the Ducks won't care much for running up the score otherwise.
Over/Under Pick for Oregon State vs Oregon
- Over 55.5 (-105) (4 Units)
The Beavers' defense has done little to obstruct their opponents this season, and they're entering a matchup with a Ducks team that's moving the ball at will against most of theirs. Oregon ranks fourth in the FBS with 54.7 points per game – nearly enough to hit the over here on their own if they put up another expected performance. Add in Oregon State scoring on a drive or two to close the game when the Oregon defense has clocked out, and it isn't hard to see the total here hitting 56 or higher.
