Oregon State’s Offense Finally Exploded

Oregon State began with a 33-20 loss at Houston and a 35-24 home loss to Texas Tech before everything clicked against Montana. The Beavers rolled to a 52-17 victory, scoring 35 first-half points and producing their first win under their new coaching staff.

Oregon State finished with 510 total yards against Montana, including 366 through the air and 144 on the ground. The rushing improvement was particularly important after the Beavers managed only 26 and 55 rushing yards in their first two games. Producing balance rather than depending almost entirely on the passing attack makes Oregon State considerably more difficult to defend.

The question is whether that breakthrough travels to El Paso. UTEP should present more resistance than Montana, and the Sun Bowl is a difficult environment. Still, Oregon State’s first two losses came against Houston and Texas Tech, and the Beavers now step down significantly from those opponents.

UTEP Returns Home After Another Difficult Road Assignment

UTEP’s latest game was always going to be difficult. The Miners traveled to Michigan and lost 52-17 against a nationally ranked opponent. They now return to the Sun Bowl for Homecoming and a much more manageable matchup against Oregon State.

The concern is UTEP’s ability to slow the Beavers’ passing attack. Oregon State just generated 366 passing yards and 510 total yards against Montana. If the Miners cannot generate pressure, Oregon State should have opportunities to create explosive plays downfield and put UTEP into an early deficit.

Home field is UTEP’s biggest advantage. Oregon State must travel from Corvallis to El Paso one week after an emotional first victory, while UTEP gets its second home game of the season. That should prevent this from becoming an easy assignment for the Beavers, but Oregon State currently owns the more convincing offensive ceiling.

UTEP has home-field value, but Oregon State’s passing attack gives the Beavers the clearest matchup advantage. At a field goal or better, Oregon State is the side.

Pick: Over 52.5 or Lower

Oregon State has allowed at least 17 points in all three games while scoring 20, 24 and 52. UTEP should be capable of generating more offense at home than it did at Michigan, and Oregon State enters after producing 510 total yards. A game around 31-24 would be enough to clear this target.
