Pittsburgh Loses Big To The Irish

Pittsburgh comes into this matchup off a tough 37-15 home loss to Notre Dame on November 15, 2025. Quarterback Eli Holstein connected late for a 21-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Thomas, but the Panthers were otherwise stifled, managing just 219 total yards and failing to convert a single third down. The defense allowed 336 passing yards and struggled to contain the Irish ground game, leaving Pitt with its third loss of the season and putting pressure on them to rebound in ACC play.

Despite the setback, Pitt’s offense has been one of the more productive units in the conference, averaging 37.2 points per game. Quarterback Mason Heintschel has thrown for 1,676 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Holstein has added 1,081 yards and 12 scores, giving the Panthers depth under center. The rushing attack has been modest, led by Javon Turner with 416 yards and six touchdowns, but the passing game has carried the load. Wideouts Kenny Johnson (603 yards, 4 TDs) and Rodney Williams Jr. (539 yards, 6 TDs) headline a deep receiving corps that also includes Carter Hicks, who has chipped in 353 yards and four scores.

Defensively, Pitt has been stout against the run, allowing just 90.3 rushing yards per game, ranking ninth nationally. Their secondary has been more vulnerable, giving up 234.9 passing yards per contest, but overall they’ve held opponents to 23.3 points per game. With 12 takeaways, the Panthers have shown the ability to swing momentum, though mistakes on offense (17 turnovers) have often negated those gains. Against Georgia Tech’s explosive attack, Pitt will need its defensive front to control the line of scrimmage and force Haynes King into uncomfortable passing downs.

Tech Survives A Scare From Boston College

Georgia Tech enters this game riding high after a dramatic 36-34 road win over Boston College on November 15, 2025. Quarterback Haynes King was outstanding, completing 26-of-34 passes for 371 yards and a touchdown while adding 53 rushing yards. Running back Malachi Hosley chipped in 107 yards and a score, and wideout Malik Rutherford delivered a huge performance with 121 yards and a touchdown. The Jackets rallied from a late deficit, with kicker Aidan Birr drilling a 23-yard field goal in the final seconds to secure the victory and keep their ACC title hopes alive.

King has been the catalyst all season, throwing for 2,259 yards with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions while rushing for 807 yards and 14 scores. Hosley has emerged as a dynamic weapon with 625 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while Jamarius Haynes has added 454 yards and four scores. In the passing game, Eric Rivers leads with 516 yards, while Rutherford (323 yards, 3 TDs) and I. Canion (359 yards, 2 TDs) provide depth. Georgia Tech averages 496.7 yards per game, ranking second nationally, and their balance makes them one of the most dangerous offenses in the country.

Defensively, the Yellow Jackets have been shaky, allowing 409.2 yards and 24.2 points per game. Their secondary has struggled, giving up 243.2 passing yards per contest, while the run defense has allowed 166 yards per game. With only two takeaways all season, Georgia Tech has had trouble creating momentum-changing plays, which has put added pressure on their offense to outscore opponents. Against Pitt, the Jackets will look to lean on King’s dual-threat ability and Hosley’s explosiveness to control tempo, while the defense must find ways to limit big plays from Johnson and Williams Jr. Playing at home, Georgia Tech has the offensive firepower to offset its defensive shortcomings.

Pittsburgh vs Georgia Tech Pick

Pittsburgh vs Georgia Tech Spread Pick

  • Pittsburgh +3 (1 Unit)

Taking Pittsburgh +3 makes sense because the Panthers’ defense matches up well against Georgia Tech’s strengths. Pitt is allowing just 90.3 rushing yards per game, ranking ninth nationally, and that’s the exact area where the Yellow Jackets usually impose their will. If the Panthers can slow down Haynes King and Malachi Hosley on the ground, they’ll force Tech into more obvious passing situations, where their secondary—though inconsistent—has shown the ability to generate stops. Combine that with Pitt’s ability to spread the ball around through receivers like Kenny Johnson and Rodney Williams Jr., and you’ve got a team capable of keeping this game tight on the road.

On the other side, Georgia Tech’s defense has been shaky all season, giving up over 409 yards per game and struggling to create turnovers with just two takeaways. That lack of disruption plays directly into Pitt’s hands, since Mason Heintschel and Eli Holstein can both manage the offense without being forced into mistakes. The Panthers average more than 37 points per game, and even if they don’t hit that number here, their balance and defensive front should be enough to keep them within striking distance. Getting a field goal cushion with Pitt feels like value, especially in a matchup where their run-stopping ability can neutralize Tech’s biggest weapon.

Pittsburgh vs Georgia Tech Over/Under Pick

  • Under 61.5 (2 Units)

The Under 61.5 makes sense because both defenses, while inconsistent, have strengths that can slow this game down. Pitt is elite against the run, giving up just 90.3 rushing yards per game, which directly challenges Georgia Tech’s bread-and-butter ground attack. On the flip side, the Yellow Jackets’ defense has struggled overall but still tends to bend rather than break, allowing 24.2 points per game without giving up constant explosive plays. With Pitt’s offense more pass-heavy and Georgia Tech leaning on Haynes King’s dual-threat ability, drives are likely to be extended but not always finished in the end zone. That combination of tempo control and red-zone resistance points toward a total staying under the number.
