San Jose State Grabs First Win
San Jose State is coming off a huge win last week versus Idaho with a final score of 31-28. This would be the first win of the season for the Spartans as they kicked off their season to a rough start, losing both their first home and away game of the season. San Jose State looks to continue its momentum after its recent win to grab its first road win of the season.
The Spartans have struggled to start their season on offense, ranking 131st in points and 123rd in total yards. San Jose State ranks as one of the bottom rushing teams in the country, ranking 124th in total rushing yards thus far and 134th in rushing attempts. We have seen an offense that relies more on their pass game. Sophomore Wide Receiver Danny Scudero has led the team in receiving yards this season, averaging 17.5 yards per reception and has a total of 385 yards in his three games played.
The defense for the Spartans has looked decent, ranking 62nd in points allowed and 56th in total yards. A key to their defense has been their ability to stop the pass game, ranking 41st in total passing yards allowed. On defense, senior defensive back Jalen Apalit-Williams has had a great start to his season, already having an interception and 16 tackles in his first three games.

Stanford Struggling On The Road
Stanford picked up another loss last week against Virginia with a final score of 48-20. This is the third loss on the road for Stanford, as they have yet to find a win away from home this season. The Cardinal are going to need to develop their defense on the road if they hope to find success this season in conference play.
On offense this season, the Cardinal sit 115th in points and total yards. Their offense has struggled at the run game, ranking only 112th in rushing yards, but has been able to make it up thanks to their pass game, sitting 99th in passing yards. On the road this season, Stanford has only managed to average 14.3 points per game. Senior Wide Receiver Bryce Farrell currently leads the team in receiving yards, averaging 19.6 yards per reception and one receiving touchdown in his four games played.
The Cardinal are finding difficulties stopping the oppositionโs pass game as they rank 124th in passing yards allowed. This has resulted in Stanford ranking 119th in points and 114th in total yards allowed. While they are struggling to stop the pass game, Stanford has done well at rushing opposing quarterbacks. The Cardinal are 25th in the country in sacks with graduate defensive lineman Clay Patterson leading the team in sacks with three on the season.

San Jose State versus Stanford Picks and Predictions
Money Line Pick for San Jose State versus Stanford
- San Jose Stateย (+110) (5 units)
Last season, San Jose State had a record of 4-2-0 in non-conference games. Stanford has a record of 5-10-0 in non-conference games since 2021. While the Cardinal do perform better at home than on the road, I do not believe it will be enough to overcome the Spartansโ defense. Stanford has relied on their pass game to generate any sort of offense this season and they will be going up against San Jose State who has looked great against the pass. The Spartans may not have a reliable offense, but it should be good enough to generate points against a struggling Stanford defense.
Over/Under Pick for San Jose State versus Stanford
- Under 49.5 (-105) (4 units)ย
Stanford had an over/under record of 2-4-0 at home last season. On the road last season, San Jose State had an over/under record of 1-3-1. I do not have much faith in the Cardinal to generate offense against the Spartans due to the reliable defense of San Jose State. Stanford does struggle on defense, but this alone will not be able to take us over the total due to San Jose State struggling to produce consistent points. I have little faith in both offenses and because of thi,s I am siding with a lower-scoring game.
