South Carolina Looks To Regain Footing After Late Collapse

South Carolina’s 29-22 loss to No.4 Alabama was another game that slipped away in the final minutes. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers led the way with 222 passing yards, a touchdown, and 67 rushing yards, displaying his dual-threat abilities. However, his late fumble allowed Alabama to score the deciding touchdown. Sellers has totaled 1,356 passing yards this season, completing 108 of 171 passes with six touchdowns and three interceptions. His mobility keeps defenses guessing, but the Gamecocks’ offensive line has struggled, allowing 22 sacks through eight games.

The backfield has been led by Rahsul Faison, who’s rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns on 69 carries. Wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs leads the receiving corps with 21 catches for 343 yards and two scores. South Carolina moves the ball well between the 20s, but untimely penalties and turnovers have killed drives. Against an Ole Miss team that thrives on takeaways, execution, without mistakes, penalties, or turnovers, will be vital.

The offense is averaging just 16.8 points in SEC games. They average around 107 yards per game rushing to rank 123rd in the nation. Defensively, they are strong against the pass (195ypg) and will be tested in this one.

Defensively, the Gamecocks showed growth last week by holding Alabama to just 72 rushing yards. Linebacker Bryan Thomas Jr. leads the pass rush with five sacks, while defensive back DQ Smith is the team leader in tackles with 43. However, late-game breakdowns and penalties have plagued the Gamecocks all season. South Carolina must keep the Rebels’ high-tempo offense off the field as much as possible by winning third down if it hopes to be competitive.

Injuries: South Carolina remains banged up heading into this one. Wide receiver J. Sellers and cornerback B. Mack III are both doubtful, while offensive guard C. Henry is out.

Ole Miss Building Momentum Behind Balanced Offense

Ole Miss comes in hot after a 34-26 road win over Oklahoma. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss delivered another solid performance with 315 passing yards, a touchdown, and 53 yards on the ground. On the season, Chambliss has thrown for 1,864 yards and nine touchdowns with only one interception, controlling the offense with his talent and consistently performing with few mistakes.

The Rebels’ ground game has been effective. Running back Kewan Lacy has powered the rushing attack with 696 yards and 12 touchdowns on 165 carries. He found the end zone twice against Oklahoma and has scored in seven straight games. Wide receiver Harrison Wallace III leads the receivers corps with 464 yards and two touchdowns on 26 receptions. The Rebels’ offense gained 431 total yards last week and has had a balanced attack in nearly every matchup this year.

On defense, Ole Miss is allowing 199 yards against the pass, but can be run on 163ypg).  Linebacker TJ Dottery leads the unit with 52 tackles, while defensive end Princewill Umanmielen has 3.5 sacks. The Rebels forced a crucial fumble in the fourth quarter last week, sealing the win. They have been particularly strong at home, holding opponents under 20 points in two of the last three played in Oxford.

Injuries: The Rebels list cornerback A. Kite as questionable with an undisclosed issue. His availability could impact the secondary’s depth.

South Carolina at Ole Miss Pick

Spread Pick for South Carolina vs. Ole Miss

  • Ole Miss -12.5 (4 Units)

The Rebels have the statistical advantage across the board. The Ole Miss balanced offense, led by Chambliss and Lacy, is averaging well over 400 total yards per game, while South Carolina’s defense has struggled in the second half of games. The Gamecocks’ offensive line has allowed 22 sacks this season, a major liability against a defensive front that applies plenty of pressure. Sellers’ dual-threat ability will create yards for South Carolina, but Ole Miss’ pass rush will eventually wear down the Gamecocks' offensive line. With Ole Miss 4-1 in SEC play and unbeaten at home this season, the Rebels are in position to cover the spread comfortably. Expect them to have sustained drives and dominate time of possession behind a disciplined offense that rarely turns the ball over.

Over/Under Pick for South Carolina vs. Ole Miss

  • Under 55.5 (4 Units)

While both teams feature athletic quarterbacks capable of creating big plays, this matchup will likely be a slower-paced game than many may expect. Ole Miss can control tempo through Lacy’s rushing attack, which keeps the clock moving and limits South Carolina’s possessions. The Gamecocks’ red-zone struggles and injury concerns at receiver further point toward limited scoring opportunities. On the other side, Ole Miss’ defense has improved in recent weeks, holding Washington State to 21 points and forcing turnovers in three straight games. Unless South Carolina forces multiple takeaways, the Rebels will dictate the pace and keep the total below the number.
