South Carolina Looking to Snap a Three-Game Losing Streak

The South Carolina Gamecocks started the season with consecutive victories and scored 102 points total. Since then, embattled head coach Frank Beamer has seen his squad lose three straight games by a combined 125-86 score. On Saturday, South Carolina was unable to protect an early 17-point lead during a 35-34 overtime loss versus Kentucky.Β

Maurice Brown II caught a five-yard touchdown pass on the Gamecock’s first possession in overtime. The Wildcats responded with a six-yard touchdown reception and then won the game on a two-point conversion. QB LaNorris Sellers (2 pass TDs) did his best Superman impression with 226 passing yards and a game-high 147 rushing yards.Β

The Gamecocks rank near the top of the SEC Conference in total offense (491 ypg) and are scoring a shade below 38 points per game. South Carolina has made 20 red zone trips and has converted that into 13 touchdowns. The problem for the Gamecocks has been a defense that has forced just two turnovers and is allowing 26.8 points per contest.

Florida Incredibly Balanced on Offense

The Florida Gators have finished with a losing record in four of the previous five seasons, but there is reason for optimism. First-year head coach Jon Sumrall has things headed in the right direction and made a home run hire by luring offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner away from Georgia Tech. The Gators raced out to a 4-0 start and scored a total of 214 points.Β

Last week, Florida surrendered 560 yards of total offense and committed eight penalties during a 45-17 road loss against 25th ranked Missouri. Junior RB Jadan Baugh (613 rush yds) leads the country with 11 rushing touchdowns, but was limited to 13 rushing yards against a stout Tigers’ defensive front. Florida QB Aaron Philo threw for 197 yards and a touchdown.Β

Florida ranks fourth in the SEC Conference in total offense at nearly 500 yards per game and averages 46.2 points. The Gators rank third nationally with 26 red zone trips and have scored 21 touchdowns in those opportunities. Florida was exposed defensively against Missouri and is surrendering 2.72 points per contest.

South Carolina vs Florida Picks and Prediction

Pick: South Carolina +11.5

South Carolina star DE was suspended for the Kentucky loss and is traveling with the team for this contest. He is expected to play. The Gamecocks limited Kentucky to 3.3 yards per rush and that will key against the Gators. South Carolina is due for some turnover regression and will be able to cover this number.

Pick: Over 59.5

South Carolina is playing at a much faster tempo for first year offensive coordinator Kendal Briles. The Gamecocks currently rank 30th nationally in seconds per play. Florida is a well oil offensive machine and their defense looked very leaky last week. Both teams could score 30 in what will be a shootout in Gainesville.

Final Score Prediction: Florida 35 South Carolina 31
