Tough matchup for 'Cuse
It's been a rough season for Syracuse, which has lost six straight games, including their quarterback. The good news is that the Orange are coming off a bye week. The bad news is that they haven't really been competitive in that losing streak, covering just twice, including the 28.5 points in their 38-10 defeat by Miami on Nov. 8. Cuse didn't help themselves with four turnovers, including two interceptions from LSU transfer quarterback Rickie Collins.
Collins is completing just 53.6% of his passes for 1,042 yards with six TDs and 10 INTs. He's taken over for Steve Angeli, who completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,317 yards with 10 TDS and two picks before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in late October. The running game is anchored by Yasin Willis who has 563 yards and four TDs (4.3ypc)
This s not a very explosive offense. They average just 117.7 rushing yards per game and rank 123rd against the pass (267.1ypg). The biggest issue has been turnovers as they rank 132nd with a -1.2 turnover margin.

Notre Dame trying to finish strong
The Irish should make the playoffs if they finish 10-2. The means beating Syracuse at hoem and then another ACC foe, Stanford on the road. They were fortunate that the schedule opened up for them after losing at Miami (27-24) to open the season and then to Texas A&M (41-40). It's not their fault that most of the teams they faced were average to subpar. Yet Notre Dame's schedule is solid ovrfall, with a 13.6 rating according to TeamRankings.com, ranking them seventh overall ahead of 10-0 Texas A&M. ESPN.com's SOS has them at 29 in their analytics department.
Anyhow, the Irish just need to keep winning and they've done that well, winning eight straight, including last week's 37-15 demolition of Pitt on the road. QB C.J. Carr leads the offense with 2,487 yards passing (67.3%), 21 TDs and six picks. Jeremiyah Love adds 1,135 rushing yards and 14 TDs, while Jadarian Price has 589 yards rushing and nine TDs.
Marcus Freeman's teams are going to be about defense-first and this squad has some strong defenders led by Tae Johnson, who has four interceptions, including a pick-six. Notre Dame hasn't been great against the pass, giving up 224 yards per game and that's something they need to tighten up if they make the playoffs. The offense has been very balanced with 265.7 passing yards per game (32nd) and 192.5 rushing yards (28th).

Spread Pick for Syracuse vs. Notre Dame
Syracuse vs. Notre Dame Pick and Prediction
Syracuse +35.5 (4 units)
This is a huge line and Syracuse has very little pressure on them. They come in and play their best and if they lose, it's no big deal. If Notre Dame comes out flat, they can still win this game but could struggle. Cuse oddly has played a tad better on the road, averaging 145.5 rushing yards per game, which is about 30 yards more than their overall average. Their defense isn't great, but they'll be motivated to play the spoiler role and if the Orange are down big, expect Freeman to pull out some starters, including Carr, thus not worrying about the cover in the fourth quarter up big.
- Under 50.5 (4 units)
Syracuse has scored 18 or fewer points in six straight games. There's no doubt that losing Angeli is part of it, though it's not the only reason. They've gone under in four of their last six games and are facing a very good defense, especially against the run. Notre Dame's offense is tough, but they've gone under in five of their last six games because that defense has given up 35 points in their last three games combined and 15 or fewer points in six of their last seven games.
