The Kentucky Wildcats will host the #17 Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. EST in Kroger Field. Check out our Tennessee Volunteers vs Kentucky Wildcats pick and prediction here!

Tennessee is currently tenth in the SEC with a 2-2 conference record, which shows you how stacked the SEC is as a whole. The Volunteers are 5-2 overall, and they are 1-1 on the road this year. They are hoping a conference win here can boost them not only up in the SEC standings, but to a potential playoff spot as well. Meanwhile, the Wildcats are at the bottom of the conference with an 0-4 record and a 2-2 record at home. Kentucky is hoping to avoid a four-game losing streak with an upset win here. Tennessee is a nine-point favorite while the total is set at 53.5 points. Can Kentucky earn a massive home upset with a win?

Volunteers Vying for a Playoff Spot

Tennessee fell flat in one of their most important matchups of the year, falling to #4 Alabama by a score of 37-20. Joey Aguilar threw for 268 yards, completed 28/44 passes, and had both a touchdown and an interception on the day. Desean Bishop was effective on the ground with 123 rushing yards on 14 carries, including two TDs. Braylon Staley was the primary receiver with ten catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. Edrees Farooq had three tackles and four tackle assists to lead the defense, while nobody had a sack or an interception on the day.

Aguilar has taken the majority of reps at the quarterback position for UCF, completing 64.6% of his passes for 1,948 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Bishop is the only rusher with over 350 yards, and he has 604 along with a team-high 77 carries.Β  Interestingly, Bishop only has seven of the 19 total rushing touchdowns, with Peyton Lewis earning five and Star Thomas earning four. Chris Brazzell II leads the receivers in yards with 602, but Staley barely edges him out in receptions with a team-high 41. The former leads in TD receptions, however, with seven. Arion Carter has a total of 61 tackles, while Andre Turrentine has the most solo tackles with 20. Tyre West and Joshua Josephs each have a team-high four sacks on the season and Colton Hood has seven passes defended to lead the secondary. He is also one of four players to obtain an interception this season. Carter is one of seven players listed on the injury report for Tennessee, with four of them (including Carter) listed as questionable to play while the rest are out for this upcoming contest.

Wildcats Still Winless in the SEC

Kentucky put up a fight but still lost in overtime to the #22 Texas Longhorns by a score of 16-13. Cutter Boley led the team at the QB position with 31/39 passes completed for 258 yards and one interception. Boley and Seth McGowan each carried the ball 14 times and rushed for 45 yards, but Boley had the lone rushing touchdown on the day. McGowan was the leading receiver with seven catches for 68 yards as well. Ty Bryant had the most productive day on defense for the Wildcats with four tackles and three tackle assists, while Steven Soles Jr. had a sack.

Boley has taken the majority of reps at the quarterback position for UCF, completing 64.2% of his passes for 885 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. McGowan is the leading rusher with 476 yards on 93 carries, including seven touchdowns. Kendrick Law is the leading receiver for the Wildcats with 22 receptions and 199 yards with a TD. To put it in comparison, nobody else has more than 13 receptions on the season, but Josh Kattus has a team-high two TD receptions. Alex Afari Jr. has 39 total tackles to lead the defensive unit, but Ty Bryant is right behind him with 38. Soles Jr. is the leading pass rusher with three sacks to his name and Terhyon Nichols has the most passes defended on the year with four. Bryant remains the only player with multiple interceptions on the season for Kentucky. Fourteen players are technically listed on the injury report for the Wildcat,s including McGowan and Kattus. The former is questionable along with two others are questionable to play while Kattus and two others are probable to play. The rest are either out or doubtful to suit up on Saturday.

Tennessee vs. Kentucky Pick

Spread Pick for Tennessee vs Kentucky

  • Tennessee -9 (4 units)

I get it, Kentucky nearly beat Texas, but Tennessee is different. They are much healthier, and they are not relying on a quarterback who has pedigree because of his last name. Considering McGowan is questionable, that could put a damper on Kentucky's offensive scheme. Tennessee is shooting for a playoff spot right now and should this game even be competitive, the Volunteers might not earn a spot. I expect them to take this game seriously, as they are only 2-2 in the conference. Tennessee will want revenge after losing to Alabama and the Volunteers have won their last four in a row and six of seven against Kentucky.

Over/Under pick for Tennessee vs Kentucky

  • Under 53.5 (4 units)

Kentucky proved that they could handle some tough competition with Texas, but I doubt they hold Tennessee to only 16 points. Nevertheless, I don't expect Kentucky to have a productive offensive day on Saturday. The Wildcats have scored no more than 14 points in each of their last three games and Tennessee shouldn't put up 40+ points. Kentucky has held their opponents to no more than 35 points in each game, and that includes a formidable Georgia team. With two key offensive players in McGowan and Kattus on the injured list for Kentucky, it should give Tennessee and easier opportunity to establish a lead early, force Kentucky to throw the ball, and run out the clock in the final few minutes.
