Tennessee a Year Ahead of Scheduleย

The Tennessee Volunteers cruised to a 3-0 start in non-conference play and outscored their opponents by a 143-42 margin. The 15th ranked Volunteers (4-1) entered the season with a freshman quarterback and were expected to be a year away from being playoff contenders. After dropping their SEC Conference opener against Texas, Tennessee responded with a 24-14 road victory against Auburn.ย

The Volunteers managed just three points in the first half, but came out firing on all cylinders in the decisive third quarter. Two touchdown runs by DeSean Bishop staked Tennessee to a 17-7 lead entering the final quarter. Bishop finished with a career-high 220 rushing yards on 34 carries. The Volunteers forced three turnovers and registered four sacks.ย

Tennessee ranks in the middle of the conference in total offense (415 ypg) and averages 36.8 points per game. The Volunteers have scored on all 14 red zone trips, but have only converted that into six touchdowns. The Tennessee defense has been outstanding against the pass and is limiting opponents to 15.2 points per contest.

Arkansas Fans Have Nothing to Cheer About

The Arkansas Razorbacks have posted just three winning records in the previous ten years and the fan base is growing restless. The Razorbacks (2-3) hired head coach Ryan Silverfield, but the athletic department seems more intent on funding the successful baseball and basketball programs. Last week, Arkansas managed just 214 yards of total offense during a 34-7 road loss against Texas A&M.ย

Arkansas trailed 14-0 late in the first quarter when K.J. Jackson connected with Chris Marshall on a 26-yard touchdown pass. Jackson finished with an anemic 111 passing yards on 25 attempts. Marshall accounted for seven of the teamโ€™s 13 receptions and contributed a game-high 76 yards. The Razorbacks were gashed for 231 rushing yards and allowed the Aggies to possess the ball for more than 38 minutes.ย

Arkansas has been respectable on the defensive side of the ball. The Razorbacks rank tenth in the SEC Conference in total defense and are giving up 28.4 points per game. Arkansas ranks near the bottom of the conference in total offense and owns a negative three turnover margin.

Tennessee vs Arkansas Picks and Prediction

Pick: Arkansas +13.5

Tennessee QB Faizon Brandon (shoulder) did not play last week and is listed as questionable for this game. Arkansas defeated Tennessee in Fayetteville two seasons ago and the Volunteers returned the favor with a 34-31 home victory in 2025. The Volunteers should not be favored by this many points on the road. Take the points.

Pick: Under 51.5

With Brandon likely sidelined, Tennessee will likely turn to freshman QB George MacIntyre to make his first career start. Arkansas has question marks along their offensive line and the Tennessee defensive front should wreak plenty of havoc. Both offenses should struggle, which makes the under the play.

Final Score Prediction: Tennessee 27 Arkansas 17
