Texas A&M Has Struggled Against SEC Opponents
The 41-0 win over The Citadel gave Texas A&M something positive to take into this game, but the SEC results tell a different story. Missouri beat the Aggies 27-6, and LSU also held them to six points in a 35-6 loss. Texas A&M did beat Arkansas 34-7, although Kentucky had already handed the Aggies a 31-21 defeat. That's three conference losses in four tries. The running game has produced 1,128 yards in seven games, but Texas A&M has had a harder time moving the ball through the air.
Marcel Reed has completed 112 of 201 passes for 1,227 yards, with seven touchdowns and six interceptions. Isaiah Horton leads the receivers with 280 yards and three scores, although Mario Craver has a team-high 24 catches and is questionable. KJ Edwards has rushed for 317 yards on just 47 carries, with Rueben Owens II close behind at 314. Defensively, Ray Coney has 36 tackles. Marco Jones has two sacks, while Julio Humphrey has returned an interception for a touchdown. The Aggies need that defense to create opportunities.
Injuries: B. Ivy, Terry Bussey, M. Williams and T. Riden Jr. are out. Mario Craver and A. Bethel-Roman are questionable.
Alabama Looking to Get Its Offense Going Again
Alabama scored at least 49 points in three straight wins before running into Georgia and Tennessee. The Crimson Tide put up 50 against Florida State, 49 against South Carolina and 56 at Mississippi State. Then Georgia held Alabama to 17 points, and Tennessee allowed just 10 last Saturday. Both games ended in losses. The sudden drop in scoring is hard to ignore, especially with Texas A&M coming to town. Alabama has thrown for 1,769 yards and rushed for 1,147 this season.
Keelon Russell has thrown for 1,746 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions, completing 67.5% of his passes. Ryan Coleman-Williams and Lotzeir Brooks have 415 receiving yards apiece, but Coleman-Williams is out with a knee injury. Trae'shawn Brown has rushed for 313 yards and five touchdowns, while Daniel Hill has 296 yards and four scores. Alabama's defense has picked off 10 passes. Caleb Woodson has 53 tackles, and Yhonzae Pierre leads the pass rush with 3.5 sacks. The defense has still been making plays during the losing streak.
Injuries: Ryan Coleman-Williams and A. Walker are out. EJ Crowell, C. Morgan and J. Ford are questionable.
Key To The Game
Texas A&M has scored six points in each of its two recent SEC road losses. Alabama has intercepted 10 passes, and Reed has thrown six picks. If the home defense forces turnovers, Alabama can protect its quarterback from another long afternoon.
Texas A&M vs Alabama Game Pick
- Alabama -14
Alabama hasn't played well in its last two games, but Texas A&M has struggled badly against SEC opponents away from home. The Aggies scored just six points at both LSU and Missouri. Russell has 12 passing touchdowns, and Alabama's defense has 10 interceptions. Even without Coleman-Williams, the Crimson Tide have more ways to score. Alabama will get back on track and cover the 14-point spread in Tuscaloosa on Saturday afternoon.
Texas A&M vs Alabama Over/Under Pick
- Under 50.5
The Aggies were shut down by LSU and Missouri, scoring six points in both games. Alabama has also been held in check lately, managing 17 against Georgia and 10 at Tennessee. Coleman-Williams being out takes a receiving option away from Russell. Alabama can control this game with its defense and rushing attack rather than chasing big plays. The combined score will stay under 50.5 points at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.
