Texas State Bobcats vs UTSA Roadrunners Picks and Prediction for Saturday, September 6, 2025

The Texas State Bobcats (1-0, 1-0 O/U) are facing off against the UTSA Roadrunners (0-1, 1-0 O/U) are battling it out in Week 2 of the 2025 college football season on Saturday afternoon inside the Alamodome in nonconference action. The Bobcats are coming off a 52-27 home win on Saturday against the Eastern Michigan Broncos. The Roadrunners are looking to bounce back after their 42-24 road loss against the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. This is the seventh game that these teams are facing off and Texas State won last year for the first time with a 49-10 home win. College gridiron clarity — NCAAF picks for Texas State Bobcats vs UTSA Roadrunners with key matchups.

Bobcats Ready to Continue Winning Games

The Texas State Bobcats have been able to get off to a good start to the season as they have begun the year with a victory. Quarterback Brad Jackson had a great opening game as he completed 18-of-26 (69.2%) of his passes for 214 yards with four passing touchdowns while also running 10 times for 48 yards (4.8 yards per carry). They were able to run the ball extremely effectively as well as running back Lincoln Pare dominated in limited carries as he has 12 rushing attempts for 167 yards (13.9 yards per carry) with a rushing touchdown and a 20-yard reception. This dynamic duo has been a major reason for the reason Texas State is currently scoring 52.0 points per game.

The defense for the Bobcats has been holding their own as they allow 27.0 points right now. The team has not been able to do too well on the statistic side of things as they have not forced a turnover, but have two sacks and three pass deflections.

Roadrunners Looking to Get in the Win Column

The UTSA Roadrunners are looking to recover as they lost their opening game of the season. Quarterback Owen McCown has been passing the football at a solid level as he has completed 19-of-32 (59.4%) of his passes for 121 yards and did not record a touchdown or interception. Running back Robert Henry Jr had a massive start to the year as he had 16 rushing attempts for 177 yards (11.1 yards per carry) and a pair of rushing touchdowns as well as three catches for nine yards (3.0 yards per reception). The offense needs to figure out how to put points on the board as they are averaging 24.0 points per game.

UTSA’s defense needs to do a lot better as the program is giving up 42.0 points per game through the first week. The team did not force a takeaway or a sack, but did record a pair of tackles for loss. The defense needs to improve drastically at getting stops if they want to be a better team as the season progresses.

Texas State vs. UTSA Pick

Spread Pick for Texas State vs. UTSA

  • Texas State Bobcats +155 (4 units)

The quality of Week 1 opponents makes some of the statistical differences feel unfair as UTSA faced a ranked program while Texas State did not. However, Owen McCown looked overwhelmed in the pocket quickly while Brad Jackson looked a lot more poised. The inability of the Roadrunners to be able to record a sack throughout the game makes things a lot more difficult as they were not able to apply much pressure to the opposing offense. This game should be a close matchup, but take the underdog that looked like more of a complete team in Week 1 here.

Over/Under Pick for Texas State vs. UTSA

  • Under 66.5 (5 units)

While these offenses were able to run the football well and neither team was able to get many stops, this number is just too large. Brad Jackson and Owen McCown did not throw the football for many yards in Week 1 and the rush defense should be able to limit the amount of offense throughout the game. These defenses are going to show some improvement and more than a point per minute feels way too high. All in all, go with under 66.5 total points to be scored.
