#7 Red Raiders Stay Perfect at 6-0
Coach Joey McGuire is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football program, and this year’s team is looking like a force. They’re out to a 6-0 start, which includes notable victories over #16 Utah (34-10), Houston (35-11), and Kansas (42-17), most recently. The only other ranked team on Tech’s schedule is #15 BYU at home on November 8th. From here, the Red Raiders are sizable -175 favorites to win the Big 12 title, while coming in at +1800 to win the national championship.
Senior quarterback Behren Morton is back under center for Texas Tech this season, and he has been more than serviceable. The signal caller has thrown for 1,501 yards on a 68.4% completion rate, adding 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. Out wide, his top targets are WRs Caleb Douglas (395 yards, 1 TD) and Coy Eakin (341 yards, 3 TD). The Red Raiders are excellent on the ground, and RB Cameron Dickey leads the way with 591 yards and eight touchdowns on 91 carries (6.5 YPC).
- Tech’s offense has been otherworldly this season, ranking second in scoring (43.6 PPG), while putting up 531.0 yards per game (second).
- On the defensive side, the Red Raiders are fifth this season, allowing 13.2 points per game. In terms of yardage, they’re 10th, conceding 272.0 yards per contest.
Sun Devils Hammered in Salt Lake City
Meanwhile, Coach Kenny Dillingham and his Arizona State Sun Devils are coming off of that CFP run in 2024-25. The Sun Devils are 4-2 (2-1 B12), but a return trip to the playoffs is looking unlikely at this point. Arizona State has dropped road games to Mississippi State (24-20) and Utah (42-10), but they do have a couple of decent wins over Baylor (27-24) and TCU (27-24). As I mentioned in the intro, ASU is dealing with injuries, and both LB Zyrus Fiaseu and C Ben Coleman will miss the rest of the year.

QB Sam Leavitt missed the Utah game, but he had still thrown for 1,039 yards on a 63.1% completion rate, adding eight touchdowns and three picks. It’s none other than superstar WR Jordyn Tyson leading things out wide. He has 47 receptions for 523 yards and seven touchdowns. RB Raleek Brown has handled a bulk of the rushing work, registering 573 yards and two touchdowns on 91 carries (6.3 YPC). Leavitt also has 281 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
- Offensively, the Sun Devils are scoring 23.6 points per game (86th), while averaging 387.4 yards per week (58th).
- Defensively, they are 67th in the country this year, conceding 25.8 points per game. They’re allowing 337.2 yards per contest, which is 32nd.
Texas Tech vs. Arizona State Pick
Spread Pick for Texas Tech vs. Arizona State
- Texas Tech Red Raiders -7.5 (-104) (5 units)
Arizona State will welcome back Sam Leavitt this weekend, which will of course, be a huge boost. However, I don’t think the quarterback returning will be enough to keep this game within the number. Leavitt really hasn’t been overpowering this season, and there have been multiple games where this team has gotten out to 17-0 deficits. If they go down early, Tech will absolutely roll them.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech is firing on all cylinders. And, after noticing that they are a top-five team in both offensive and defensive scoring, I not only bet them in this game, but I also locked in an 18/1 future on them to win the national championship. They’re elite in the trenches, and they’ll take on an ASU defense that just got gashed for six rushing touchdowns against Utah. Missing a quarterback is a viable excuse, but allowing six rushing touchdowns is just unacceptable. I think the Red Raiders cruise to a victory, and more importantly, a cover in this one.
Over/Under Pick for Texas Tech vs. Arizona State
- Over 51.5 (-110) (5 units)
Arizona State is banged-up in the trenches as well, as they’ll miss C Ben Coleman on the offensive side, as well as LB Zyrus Fiaseu on the front seven defensively. This isn’t an ideal spot for them to take on injuries, as they welcome in a Texas Tech squad that’s averaging 43.6 points per game against FBS-level competition. That’s the second-most in the nation (USC, 45.5).
So, I do see the Sun Devils trailing in this one. Luckily, they do have the Leavitt-Jordyn Tyson duo to try and keep pace. When this duo needs to dial it up under pressure, they typically find a way to make it happen. I don’t think it’ll be enough to cover, but I expect ASU to carry its weight in helping get the game over the total. I’ll predict a 34-20 final in favor of the visitors.
