Texas Tech vs. Utah Prediction and Picks - September 20, 2025

Texas Tech is traveling to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah for their week four matchup against Utah; keep reading for our Texas Tech versus Utah prediction. Texas Tech and Utah are both tied for second in the Big 12 with a record of 3-0. The last time these two schools met was back in 1973, which saw a Texas Tech victory of 29-22. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EDT. If you are struggling to pick winners, you've come to the right place. We have the strongest College Football Picks

Texas Tech’s Top-Ranked Offense

Texas Tech is coming off another win last week versus Oregon State with a final score of 45-14. This is the third win in a row for the Red Raiders as they remain undefeated this season. This will be the first conference game of the season for the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech holds the top rank in the country for points scored, already scoring 174 points in its first three games. Add to this that the Red Raiders also rank second overall in total yards, we are seeing an offense that looks nearly unstoppable. The key to their offense has been their pass game, as they sit second overall in passing yards and eighth overall in passing yards per reception at 10.5. While their defense equally looks impressive, it has been their pass game that has truly made them stand out this season.

Senior Behren Morton has been key to the success on the offense as the starting quarterback this season.

Behren Morton:

  • has a passer rating of 208.4 with 923 yards, 11 touchdowns and 1 interception in 3 games this season.
  • had a passer rating of 139.1 with 3,335 yards, 27 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 12 games in 2024.

Utah’s Defense Looks For Another Strong Season

Utah picked up another win last week against Wyoming with a final score of 31-6. This is the third win in a row for the Utes as they continue to remain undefeated at the start of their season. This will be the first conference game of the season for the Utes.

Utah last season struggled to find wins as it relied heavily on their defense to grab wins. Last season, Utah ended 12th in the country in points allowed and sixth overall in total yards allowed. While this is impressive, it did not lead to as many wins as they would have hoped, with their offense struggling to grab the win. Utah finished 106th in points and 118th in total yards last season. This season, the Utes are looking better on offense and are grabbing more wins as a result, as they currently rank 12th overall in points and 14th in total yards.

Junior Devon Dampier will be the starting quarterback this season for the Utes and is a huge reason for their success on offense.

Devon Dampier:

  • has a passer rating of 158.3 with 628 yards and 7 touchdowns in 3 games this season.
  • had a passer rating of 121.6 with 2,768 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 games in 2024 with New Mexico.

Texas Tech vs. Utah Prediction and Picks

Spread Pick for Texas Tech vs. Utah

  • Texas Tech +2.5 (+104) ( 5 units)

Texas Tech had a record last season of 3-0-0 against the spread as a road underdog. Utah had a record of 1-3-0 against the spread last season as a home favorite. Texas Tech also had a record of 6-2-1 against the spread versus conference opponents last season. While we are seeing improvements to Utah’s offense from last season, I do not believe it will be enough to compare to one of the top offenses in the country. Texas Tech is going to keep this game close and even have a likely chance of grabbing the win over Utah.

Over/Under Pick for Texas Tech vs. Utah

  • Under 58.5 (-110) ( 3 units)

Utah had an over/under record of 1-6-0 as a favorite last season. Texas Tech had an over/under record of 1-2-0 last season as a road underdog. Utah is not going to be able to win this game or keep it close if they intend to match Texas Tech point for point. Utah is going to need to use their defense to keep this game close. Even if Utah is unable to hold back the Red Raiders’ offense, I doubt their ability to produce enough points to help Texas Tech reach an over.
