Red Raiders Destroy UCF At Home

At 10-1 overall and 7-1 in Big 12 play, Texas Tech enters the regular-season finale riding high after a 48-9 win over UCF on November 15 in Lubbock. Behren Morton was sharp, completing 14-of-20 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown, while Cameron Dickey carried the ball 11 times for 77 yards and two scores. Reggie Virgil added five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown, plus two rushing scores. The Red Raiders piled up nearly 500 yards of offense and held UCF to just nine points, continuing a stretch of dominant play that has them firmly in the College Football Playoff conversation.

Offensively, Texas Tech has been one of the most explosive units in the country, averaging 42.6 points per game and nearly 482 yards of total offense. Morton has thrown for 2,118 yards and 17 touchdowns, while Dickey has rushed for 946 yards and 13 scores, giving the Red Raiders balance and big-play ability. Virgil and Caleb Douglas headline the receiving corps, combining for over 1,250 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Will Hammond has provided depth at quarterback when needed. The Red Raiders have scored at least 40 points in seven games this season, showing they can overwhelm defenses with both tempo and efficiency.

Defensively, Texas Tech has been just as impressive, ranking third nationally in scoring defense at 12.3 points per game and fourth in total defense at 266.1 yards allowed. Their run defense has been elite, giving up only 71.8 yards per game, the best mark in the country. Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez has been a force with over 100 tackles and seven forced fumbles, while edge rusher David Bailey leads the nation in sacks. This combination of a high-powered offense and suffocating defense has made Texas Tech one of the most complete teams in college football heading into Morgantown.

Mountaineers Come Up Short Against Sun Devils

West Virginia sits at 4-7 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play, coming off a heartbreaking 25-23 loss at Arizona State on November 15. Freshman quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns, including a 90-yard strike to Cyncir Bowers in the fourth quarter that briefly gave the Mountaineers the lead. Jeff Weimer added a 75-yard touchdown catch earlier in the game, but Arizona State answered with a late field goal to escape. Despite the loss, West Virginia showed resilience, rallying in the fourth quarter and nearly pulling off the upset on the road.

The Mountaineers’ offense has been inconsistent but showed flashes of explosiveness against Arizona State. Fox has thrown for 1,178 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Diore Hubbard leads the ground game with 335 rushing yards and four scores. Bowers has been a versatile weapon with 246 rushing yards and 246 receiving yards, while Cam Vaughn leads the receiving corps with 540 yards and four touchdowns. West Virginia averages 23.7 points per game, ranking 110th nationally, but their ability to hit big plays makes them dangerous when Fox is in rhythm.

Defensively, West Virginia has struggled, allowing 29.2 points per game and nearly 395 yards per contest. The secondary has been vulnerable, giving up 254.6 passing yards per game, while the run defense has been middling at 139.7 yards allowed. Linebacker Reid Carrico leads the team in sacks, and nickel corner Fre Perry has been the most consistent tackler. The Mountaineers have forced just 10 turnovers all season, a number that has limited their ability to flip momentum in close games. Facing Texas Tech’s balanced attack, West Virginia will need its defense to rise to the occasion while hoping Fox and the offense can generate enough explosive plays to keep pace.

Texas Tech vs West Virginia Pick

Texas Tech vs West Virginia Spread Pick

  • West Virginia +23.5 (4 Units)

Taking West Virginia at +23.5 makes sense because their offense has shown flashes of life even in tough losses. Quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. has thrown for over 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns, and he’s got weapons who can stretch the field like Cyncir Bowers, who ripped off a 90-yard touchdown against Arizona State, and Jeff Weimer, who added a 75-yard score in that same game. On the ground, Diore Hubbard has been the most reliable back with 335 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Fox himself has chipped in with over 200 rushing yards. That mix of quick-strike ability and balance gives West Virginia a chance to put points on the board, even against Texas Tech’s elite defense.

Defensively, the Mountaineers have struggled, allowing nearly 395 yards per game, but the spread gives them breathing room. Their front seven has been serviceable against the run, holding opponents to 139.7 rushing yards per game, and they’ve forced teams into long drives rather than quick scores. That style can help shorten the game and limit possessions, which is critical against a Red Raiders offense averaging over 42 points per contest. If Fox and his receivers can connect on a couple of explosive plays and Hubbard keeps the chains moving, West Virginia has enough offensive punch to stay within the number, making +23.5 a reasonable play.

Texas Tech vs West Virginia Over/Under Pick

Over 52.5 (5 Units)

The Over 52.5 looks like a strong angle because Texas Tech’s offense has been relentless, averaging 42.6 points per game with Behren Morton leading a passing attack that racks up nearly 288 yards per contest, while Cameron Dickey and J'Koby Williams fuel a rushing game that adds balance. West Virginia, despite their struggles, has shown they can hit explosive plays with Scotty Fox Jr. at quarterback and weapons like Cyncir Bowers and Jeff Weimer stretching the field. The Mountaineers average just under 24 points per game, but their ability to score quickly combined with a defense that gives up nearly 30 points per outing sets the stage for a high-scoring matchup. With Tech’s tempo and WVU’s knack for big plays, this game has the ingredients to push past 52.5.
