Texas vs Tennessee Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 26 2026
The Texas Longhorns visit the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET in one of the marquee SEC games of the weekend. Texas enters after shutting down UTSA 30-6, while Tennessee is coming off a convincing 42-9 victory over Kennesaw State. Both teams therefore arrive with momentum, but the level of competition rises sharply Saturday. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Texas Brings Its Defense to Knoxville
Texas’ 30-6 victory over UTSA provided another strong defensive performance. Holding an FBS opponent to six points is notable regardless of matchup, and the Longhorns now need that defensive structure to travel into a much more hostile environment.
The difficulty is that Tennessee can create pressure through tempo. Texas cannot allow the Volunteers to string together explosive plays and force the Longhorns into uncomfortable personnel situations. Tackling in space and preventing short completions from turning into significant gains will be important.
Offensively, Texas needs patience. Neyland Stadium will be loud, and attempting to chase immediate explosive plays can create turnovers or negative possessions. Sustaining drives would quiet the crowd while simultaneously keeping Tennessee’s offense off the field.
Tennessee Gets Its First Major Home Test
Tennessee enters after beating Kennesaw State 42-9, a performance that accomplished exactly what was expected. The Volunteers established control early, produced points and avoided allowing the underdog to make the game uncomfortable.
Texas is obviously a different challenge. Tennessee will not have the same physical advantages, and the Longhorns’ defense just held UTSA to six. The Volunteers need to prove their offensive efficiency can carry over against SEC-caliber defensive personnel.
Home field could be the separator. Neyland Stadium provides Tennessee with a substantial advantage, especially if the Volunteers start quickly. Forcing Texas to operate in obvious passing situations with more than 100,000 fans involved would significantly increase Tennessee’s chances of controlling the game.
Texas vs Tennessee Picks and Prediction
Pick: Tennessee +3.5 or Better
This matchup is close enough that getting more than a field goal with the home team is attractive. Texas has the defensive profile to win outright, but Tennessee gets the Longhorns at Neyland Stadium and enters after a 33-point victory. At +3.5 or better, I’ll take the Volunteers in a matchup that has the ingredients for a one-possession finish.
Pick: Under 52.5 or Higher
Texas’ defense is the strongest reason for the under. The Longhorns just held UTSA to six, while Tennessee surrendered only nine in its latest game. The quality of competition increases dramatically for both offenses. Something in the 27-23 or 24-23 range fits this matchup and keeps the total below 52.5.
Final Picks: Tennessee +3.5 or Better and Under 52.5 or Higher
