We have an interesting nonconference game in Week 4 of the college football season as the Troy Trojans will be heading to UB Stadium in Buffalo, New York on Saturday afternoon to take on the Buffalo Bulls in our Trojans vs. Bulls prediction. The game is airing exclusively on ESPN+, and these teams are streaking in opposite directions. The Trojans (1-2) are on a two-game losing streak after a 28-7 home loss to the Memphis Tigers on Saturday. The Bulls (2-1) are on a two-game winning streak as they are coming off Saturday’s 31-28 road victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes. Before kickoff: NCAAF predictions for Troy Trojans at Buffalo Bulls in one clean snapshot.

Trojans Looking to Get Back on Track

The Troy Trojans are looking to get back on the winning side of things as they are now 1-2 heading into this game. The offense has been struggling as their 20.3 points per game ranks it tied for 111th in the NCAA. Quarterback Goose Crowder has been playing decently well throughout the season and is coming into this game on their injury report with an undisclosed injury. However, he is out indefinitely so it looks like Tucker Kilcrease will replace him and he has completed 10-of-29 (34.5%) of his passes for 65yards with zero passing touchdowns to one interception. The running game has been led by running back Tae Meadows as he has recorded 44 carries for 269 yards (6.1 yards per carry) with one rushing touchdown while also adding a 12-yard reception to his ledger.

The defense of the Trojans has been a bit better for the team as they are tied for 86th in the nation as they are giving up 25.0 points per game. Troy has been able to apply pressure with eight sacks, two interceptions (one returned for touchdown), two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Bulls on Parade

The Buffalo Bulls need to extend their winning streak if they want to continue looking as dominating as they have been. Their offense needs to step up as they are tied for 74th in the sport with 28.7 points per game scored. Quarterback Taquan Roberson has been playing at a great level as he has completed 50-of-80 (62.5%) passes for 558 yards with five passing touchdowns to two interceptions while running 28 times for 158 yards (5.6 yards per attempt) with two rushing touchdowns.

The defense for the Bulls has been playing at a great level as they are giving up 19.0 points per game, which is tied for 53rd in college football. Their defense has been able to apply pressure but they are not forcing too many turnovers as they have nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Troy Trojans at Buffalo Bulls Pick

Spread Pick for Troy Trojans at Buffalo Bulls

  • Buffalo Bulls -6.5 (4 units)

The Buffalo Bulls are clearly the better team, as their offense can step up and has shown to be a threat. Taquan Roberson has been a threat throwing and running the football, but the offenses are on two completely different levels. These teams are not familiar with one another as they last played in 2018, but having the experienced quarterback in Roberson is critical to success as he is familiar with different looks the defense can give and not be overwhelmed by it. Goose Crowder is out and putting my faith in a quarterback who is just 10-for-29 passing the football is too much variance, so go with Buffalo to win at home by at least a full possession.

Over/Under Pick for Troy vs. Buffalo

  • Over 42.5 (5 units)

Both teams can move the chains well as Troy is 18-of-43 (41.86%) on third down attempts this season, while Buffalo is 16-of-40 (40.0%) in their tries on the money down thus far. Kilcrease should look better as he has a full week of preparation as the starting quarterback for Troy, while Buffalo’s offense is averaging 38.0 points in their two wins this season. All in all, over 42.5 total points is the better bet and might even be eclipsed by just the Bulls here.
