We have an exciting American Athletic Conference game in Week 5 of the college football season as the Tulane Green Wave will be heading to Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon to face off against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in our Green Wave vs Golden Hurricane prediction. The game is airing on ESPNU, so this game is going to be nationally televised as both teams are playing well to begin this year. The Green Wave (3-1, 0-0 American) are coming off a 45-10 road loss to the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane (2-2, 0-1) are coming off Fridayโ€™s 19-12 road win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Before kickoff: NCAAF predictions for Tulane Green Wave vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane in one clean snapshot.

Green Wave Looking Strong

The Tulane Green Wave are looking to continue stepping up to begin the season as they are now 3-1 (0-0 American) heading into this game thus far. The Green Waveโ€™s offense has been struggling as they are averaging 25.0 points per game, ranking 91st in the sport. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff has been mediocre this season after transferring from BYU, as he has completed 51-of-95 (53.7%) of his passes for 578 yards with two passing touchdowns to zero interceptions while also adding 48 rushes for 39 yards (7.1 yards per carry) with six rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Omari Hayes has been able to be a legitimate threat in the passing game, as he has 14 catches for 165 yards (11.8 yards per reception) without finding the end zone.

The defense for Tulane has been holding their own as they are tied for 86th in college football, as they are giving up 26.5 points per game. The Green Wave have been putting a solid amount of pressure defensively as they have recorded five sacks, 17 pass deflections, five interceptions, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.

Golden Hurricane Searching for Consistency

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane need to figure out how to get more consistent if they want to be in a better position after their 19-12 road victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys last week. Tulsa is only 122nd in the country with 22.8 points per game scored. Quarterback Baylor Hayes has been playing at a mediocre level as he has completed 59-of-90 (65.6%) of his passes for 542 yards with three passing touchdowns to two interceptions while also running 19 times for 50 yards (2.6 yards per attempt) with two rushing touchdowns.

The defense for the Golden Hurricane has been playing at a great level as they are giving up 20.5 points per game, which is tied for 56th in college football. Their defense has turned the pressure up to get them to that point as they have recorded 10 sacks, 10 pass deflections, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Tulane Green Wave vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane Pick

Spread Pick for Tulane Green Wave vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane

  • Tulsa Golden Hurricane +15.5 (4 units)

Tulsaโ€™s defense has shown to be a more effective unit at stopping the football and should be able to keep that going in this matchup. Tulaneโ€™s offensive line has been able to keep things moving in the right direction and protecting Retzlaff well, but this Tulsa defense can be the best defense they have seen outside of the Ole Miss defense they just saw. Tulsaโ€™s offensive attack can keep this game close so go with them to cover such a large spread in this game.

Over/Under Pick for Tulane Green Wave vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane

  • Under 51.5 (4 units)

Jake Retzlaff and Baylor Hayes have failed to really be a force throwing the football as they have combined for just five touchdown passes this season. A lot of the offense is going to be coming off the running game, and that feels like asking for too much. Tulsaโ€™s offense runs more rushing plays (159) than passing attempts (147), which means they are going to burn a lot of clock when having possession and if they do not put six points on the board each drive, can make reaching this number all the more difficult. The previous three head-to-head meetings have all failed to reach the 51.5 total we have for this game as well. All in all, go with under 51.5 total points as the better bet to make here.
