The Tulane Green Wave travel to Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas, to face the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET. Tulane enters this matchup after opening the season with a challenging road game at Duke before returning home to face South Alabama, while Kansas State is 2-0 after following its season-opening victory with a dominant defensive performance against Washington State. The Wildcats held the Cougars to only 166 total yards in their latest win and now return home for another significant nonconference test. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Tulane Gets Another Opportunity Against a Power Conference Opponent

Tulane entered 2026 with some uncertainty following significant offseason changes, but the Green Wave remain a program accustomed to competing with opponents from the Power Four. This trip to Manhattan is another opportunity to demonstrate that the program can continue operating at that level. Tulane's early schedule should also help prepare it for this environment, as the Green Wave already opened the season on the road against Duke rather than spending the first several weeks exclusively against overmatched opponents.

Defense was widely considered one of Tulane's biggest strengths entering the season, and that becomes particularly important against Kansas State. The Green Wave returned experience in the secondary while adding additional talent through the transfer portal, giving them a chance to limit explosive plays and force Kansas State to sustain longer possessions. That's probably the formula Tulane needs Saturday. Allowing the Wildcats to consistently generate chunk plays would make it extremely difficult for the Green Wave to remain within striking distance.

The concern is whether Tulane can produce enough offensively against a Kansas State defense coming off an outstanding performance. The Wildcats just limited Washington State to 166 total yards, so Tulane can't count on consistently driving the length of the field. Field position, turnovers and finishing opportunities in the red zone become especially important. If the Green Wave can avoid falling behind early and make Kansas State play four quarters, Tulane has enough defensive ability to remain competitive.

Kansas State's Defense Is Setting the Early Tone

Kansas State has started 2-0 under its new coaching staff and comes into this matchup following an impressive defensive effort against Washington State. The Wildcats limited the Cougars to just 166 total yards while producing four sacks and eight tackles for loss. That's exactly the kind of defensive performance Kansas State wants to carry into a matchup against a Tulane offense that could have difficulty consistently generating explosive plays.

The Wildcats also benefit significantly from returning to Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Manhattan has traditionally been a difficult destination for visiting teams, and Tulane now has to deal with that environment while trying to solve a defense that appears capable of controlling games. Kansas State doesn't necessarily need a huge offensive performance if the defense continues creating negative plays and consistently wins the field-position battle.

There is still enough uncertainty around Kansas State to avoid treating the Wildcats like an automatic blowout candidate. The program underwent a coaching transition after a 6-6 regular season in 2025, and Tulane has developed into one of the more competitive Group of Six programs in the country. Still, the early defensive results are encouraging, and Kansas State possesses the home-field advantage and the stronger overall roster. If the Wildcats avoid turnovers, they should be able to gradually create separation.

Tulane vs Kansas State Picks and Prediction

Pick: Kansas State -7 or Better

Take Kansas State if the Wildcats are favored by -7 or less. Tulane is capable of making this competitive, particularly because its defense should be the strength of the team, but Kansas State has the more convincing matchup advantages. The Wildcats are 2-0, they're playing in Manhattan, and their defense just held Washington State to 166 total yards. Tulane may be able to hang around for a half, but Kansas State's ability to generate negative plays and control field position should become increasingly important as the game progresses. At a touchdown or less, I'll lay the points with the home team.

Pick: Under 52.5

Take the Under if the total is set at 52.5 or higher. This matchup sets up much better as a defensive game than an offensive shootout. Tulane's defense was considered a strength entering the season, while Kansas State is coming off a performance in which it surrendered only 166 total yards. The Green Wave's best chance to win also involves slowing the game and preventing Kansas State from creating explosive scoring opportunities. A projected score around Kansas State 27, Tulane 17 gives the Wildcats the victory and cover while leaving plenty of room below the target total.

Final Picks: Kansas State -7 or Better and Under 52.5
