Can UAB cause a massive upset on the road?
The UAB Blazers have played two games away from home in 2025, and in that time, they're 0-2 while being outscored by a combined 46 points. And now, they look to get back to .500 after back-to-back tough defeats. Offensively, the Blazers average over 420 yards a game, ranking 50th in college football, and with the team ranking top-50 in passing stats across the board, this is a team that's hoping their offense can carry them to a big victory against a conference foe.
While Jalen Kitna (son of Jon) has turned the ball over four times this season, he's been very productive, tossing nine touchdowns on the season, and with a combined nine scores on the ground, this is a team that's got a very balanced offense. Last time out for UAB was a very tough loss to Army, with the team managing just 13 points despite putting up over 360 yards on the day, but with two turnovers stopping their production, they fell in a tough one 31-13.
The Blazers have been blown out in two straight games. One was expected (Tennessee), but the 31-13 home loss to Army is not helpful to Trent Dilfer's case for returning next season.
Can Florida Atlantic build on a big victory?
The Florida Atlantic Owls' 2025 season has been up-and-down thus far, but after two straight losses, they bounced back a week ago to beat Rice 27-21 last week. That was their first FBS win of the season, considering their only other victory came against FCS Florida A&M. The team is sitting at 1-1 at home this season; they need a win to get themselves over .500 at home. Despite being 2-3 on the season, the Owls are one of the top offenses in the country, ranking seventh in total yards while coming in first in pass yards as a team, but with the defense allowing 385 yards a game, they've struggled to find that necessary balance this season.
While junior quarterback Caden Veltkamp has tossed eight interceptions this year, he's also thrown 11 passing touchdowns, and with another two scores on the ground, he's established himself as a top-tier quarterback for the Owls. Last time out for Florida Atlantic was a tight victory over Rice, with three passing TD's from Veltkamp providing all the offense as the Owls won despite two turnovers, picking up a key 27-21 road win.
UAB Blazers vs. Florida Atlantic Owls pick
Moneyline pick for UAB vs. FAU
- FAU -4.5 (4 units)
Simply put, these two teams are built entirely around their offense, but in 2025, it's the Owls that have been much better and more balanced, with elite quarterback play ranking them among the best passing teams in College Football.
In their last meeting at FAU, the Owls came away with a tight victory back in 2022, but given how UAB has struggled on the road this season, this should be a big time victory for Florida Atlantic as they get back to .500 on the year with a win in this one.
Over/under pick for UAB vs. FAU
- Over 65.5 (4 units)
With two great passing games and some balance on the run game, these two teams have put up some big-time points this season, and out of their 10 combined games, they've allowed 32 or more points in eight of those in 2025.
For the Blazers, the over sits at 4-1 in 2025, allowing 39 points a game during that span, and for the Owls, the over comes in at 3-2 in that same time, with 56 and 26 scored in their two games played at home this season.
Keep it simple, take the over.
