UAB Faces Its First Road Test

UAB gets its first road assignment of the season after beginning 2026 with consecutive games at Protective Stadium. The Blazers opened with a victory and then faced UL Monroe in Week 2, giving them an opportunity to establish some early-season rhythm before traveling to Lafayette.

The challenge Saturday will be handling a Louisiana offense that just demonstrated it can produce points against a nationally prominent opponent. UAB cannot assume the Ragin' Cajuns will remain conservative after returning from USC. The Blazers need to prevent explosive plays and make Louisiana consistently work through longer possessions.

Offensively, UAB needs to take advantage of a Louisiana defense that surrendered 49 points last weekend. USC represents a completely different level of offensive competition, but the Ragin' Cajuns still allowed scoring opportunities throughout the game. If UAB can establish its own offensive rhythm early, this matchup has the potential to remain competitive well into the fourth quarter.

Louisiana's Offense Showed Something at USC

Louisiana lost 49-30 at USC, but scoring 30 points in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum gives the Ragin' Cajuns something positive to carry home. Louisiana was facing a major talent disadvantage and still found ways to produce 20 second-half points rather than allowing the game to completely unravel.

The defense is the obvious concern. USC reached 49 points and repeatedly generated scoring opportunities, so Louisiana needs significant improvement on that side of the ball. UAB isn't USC, however, and the Ragin' Cajuns should find Saturday's matchup considerably more manageable.

Returning to Lafayette is also important. Louisiana went across the country for its Week 2 game and now gets an opponent making its first road trip. The Ragin' Cajuns should be able to play much closer to their preferred style, and their ability to produce 30 against USC makes them attractive if the market keeps the spread below a touchdown.

UAB vs Louisiana Picks and Prediction

Pick: Louisiana -5.5 or Better

Take Louisiana if the spread is -5.5 or better. The Ragin' Cajuns lost by 19 at USC, but scoring 30 points against that level of competition was encouraging. They now return home and face a UAB team playing its first road game. Louisiana should find considerably more offensive room and has enough home-field advantage to create separation without requiring us to lay a full touchdown.

Pick: Over 55.5

Take the Over if the total is set at 55.5 or lower. Louisiana's Week 2 game produced 79 combined points, and the Ragin' Cajuns showed enough offensive capability to contribute significantly themselves. Their defense also remains a concern after allowing 49. A projected Louisiana 34, UAB 27 gives the home favorite the cover while pushing the matchup comfortably Over.

Final Picks: Louisiana -5.5 or Better and Over 55.5
