UAB getting results through the air
UAB (2-1, 0-1 AAC) has been a lot of fun to watch this season so far. Led by former Super Bowl-winning QB Trent Dilfer as head coach, the Blazers are averaging 350+ yards and 35.7 points per game from their first three outings of 2025, racking up wins over FCS Alabama State and Akron (31-28 last week) in Birmingham while dropping their sole AAC game to date, 38-24 to Navy. They are strong starters, but are having problems sustaining that pace: against both Navy and Akron UAB scored all of its points in the first half before going scoreless in the second.
As you might expect with Dilfer calling the shots, UAB runs a pass-heavy offense. Redshirt senior quarterback Jalen Kitna has completed 70-99 of his attempts (70.7%) for a total of 892 yards, six TDs and two INTs. He leads the AAC with an average of 12.7 yards per completion. UAB averages 331.0 passing yards per game, ranking 12th in college football, and just 91.0 rushing yards/game (117th in NCAAF).

Vols push Bulldogs all the way
No. 15 Tennessee (2-1, 0-1 SEC) came so close to picking up a memorable win over SEC rivals Georgia before going down in overtime 44-41. The Vols opened up an early 21-7 lead against the Bulldogs and were still up by eight deep into the fourth quarter before conceding a late touchdown and two-point conversion and missing a last-gasp field goal to take the win. They took the lead again in overtime but Georgia had the last word as Josh McCray got over the line from a yard out to decide a thrilling matchup.
Joey Aguilar had a huge game for Tennessee in its loss. The QB threw for 371 yards and four TDs, three of which went to Chris Brazzell Jr. (6 recs, 177 yds), though he also gave up two crucial INTs, which cost the Vols dearly. Brazzell has been excellent so far in 2025 with 20 catches for 364 yards and five TDs. Tennessee was also hurt by 10 penalty calls, losing a total of 80 yards, while also giving up 502 total yards to one of the best offenses in the country. For Saturday's game, the Vols will be without WR Radarious Jackson, who suffered a collarbone injury in the final minutes against Georgia.

The Vols have an enormous spread to cover on Saturday, and while I have no doubt they will come through and win big, there is enough in this UAB team, particularly with the ball in hand, to keep them within range. Kitna and the Blazers will be encouraged by some big numbers against Tennessee through the air early on: the Vols have given up 289 passing yards per game in their two matchups against FBS opposition, ranking 120th. Opponents are converting 42% on third down and 83.3% on third down against Tennessee so far. UAB is 1-0 this year ATS as the underdog.
