The UNLV Rebels visit the Akron Zips at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET with coverage on ESPN+. UNLV enters at 1-2 after using its bye week to regroup following a 44-6 loss at North Texas, while Akron returns home after facing Minnesota. UNLV Has Had Two Weeks to Correct Its Problems

UNLV’s last appearance was ugly. The Rebels lost 44-6 at North Texas, ending a six-game nonconference winning streak and snapping their school-record run of 36 consecutive regular-season games scoring at least 20 points. That performance cannot simply be dismissed, but the schedule provided UNLV with a well-timed bye.

The larger body of recent road work is more encouraging. UNLV entered the bye with 12 road victories since the beginning of the 2024 season, more than any other college football team over that period. That history matters because Saturday presents another unusual travel challenge rather than a comfortable game in Las Vegas.

The Rebels will also be playing in their fourth different time zone of the young season, with a 9:00 AM Pacific body-clock kickoff. UNLV needs to avoid another sluggish start. The extra preparation week should help, but the Rebels still need to prove the North Texas result was an outlier rather than evidence of a larger offensive problem.

Akron Returns Home After a Difficult Road Game

Akron has already demonstrated offensive upside at home this season. The Zips beat Robert Morris 45-10 at InfoCision Stadium, producing a complete performance on both sides of the ball before stepping up significantly in competition.

The most recent challenge was dramatically more difficult. Akron went to Minnesota and lost 41-7, showing the problems that can arise when the Zips face an opponent capable of controlling the line of scrimmage. UNLV is not Minnesota, however, and Saturday brings Akron back to a much more favorable environment.

The Zips’ best opportunity is to make UNLV feel the early kickoff. If Akron can establish a first-quarter advantage, the pressure immediately shifts toward a Rebels team coming off a 38-point defeat. Allowing UNLV to settle into the game would diminish much of Akron’s situational advantage.

UNLV’s loss at North Texas prevents me from wanting to lay a large road spread, but the bye week and the Rebels’ established road success make them the preferred outright side. Akron’s 45-point performance against Robert Morris deserves attention, but the 41-7 loss at Minnesota showed its limitations against stronger FBS competition. UNLV has enough experience winning away from home to get the call.

Pick: Under 52.5 or Higher

UNLV scored only six in its last game, while Akron managed seven at Minnesota. Both offenses should improve against less imposing defenses, but there isn’t enough recent evidence to assume an immediate shootout. UNLV may also emphasize control after the bye rather than trying to play at maximum pace. At 52.5 or higher, I prefer the under.
