UNLV vs North Texas Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 12 2026
The UNLV Rebels travel to DATCU Stadium in Denton, Texas, to face the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:45 PM ET on ESPNU. UNLV enters at 1-1 after bouncing back from its opening loss to Memphis with a 21-6 victory at Hawaii, while North Texas is 0-1 following a 52-16 road loss to No. 6 Indiana. UNLV is currently favored by 6.5 points. Before placing your wagers, check out our free college football picks for more predictions throughout the season.
UNLV Defense Makes a Statement in Hawaii
UNLV’s 21-6 win at Hawaii was built around an outstanding defensive performance. The Rebels recorded five sacks, seven tackles for loss, forced two fumbles, intercepted a pass and broke up seven more. After surrendering 27 points to Memphis in the opener, holding Hawaii to six points was an encouraging response.
Jackson Arnold provided two rushing touchdowns in the first half, while Jet Thomas put the game away with a 50-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. UNLV didn’t need a huge passing performance because its defense and rushing attack kept the Rebels in control. Tre Fulton was particularly disruptive defensively, finishing with 12 tackles, a sack, forced fumble and pass breakup.
The Rebels now play their second consecutive road game, but their ability to pressure the quarterback could be important against North Texas. UNLV has allowed just 33 combined points through two games, and the defense appears capable of giving the offense opportunities to play from favorable field position.
North Texas Better Than the Final Score Suggests
North Texas’ 52-16 loss at Indiana looks one-sided on the scoreboard, but the underlying offensive numbers were considerably more competitive. The Mean Green actually outgained Indiana 367-365, ran 67 offensive plays compared with Indiana’s 46 and controlled possession for more than 37 minutes.
North Texas threw for 215 yards and rushed for another 152, averaging 5.5 yards per offensive play. Jahiem White produced 97 total yards and a touchdown. The Mean Green’s biggest problem was preventing explosive plays, as Indiana averaged 7.9 yards per play and scored four passing touchdowns despite running only 46 offensive snaps.
Returning to Denton should help North Texas, and the Mean Green shouldn’t be evaluated solely on a 36-point defeat against the defending national champions. The offense demonstrated it can sustain drives, but the defense must prevent UNLV from creating the type of explosive rushing plays that helped the Rebels finish off Hawaii.
UNLV vs North Texas Picks and Prediction
Pick: UNLV -6.5
UNLV -6.5 is my preferred side. North Texas deserves more respect than the 52-16 score at Indiana suggests, but its inability to prevent explosive plays is concerning against a UNLV team that has multiple ways to attack on the ground. The Rebels also bring the more convincing defensive performance into this matchup after recording five sacks and forcing three turnovers against Hawaii. North Texas should make this competitive at home, but UNLV has enough advantages to create separation in the second half. Take UNLV -6.5.
Pick: Over 57.5
The Over 57.5 is my preferred total if that number is available. North Texas generated 367 yards against Indiana despite scoring only 16 points, suggesting the Mean Green left considerable scoring production on the field. UNLV has enough rushing explosiveness to take advantage of a North Texas defense that surrendered 52 points and 7.9 yards per play in Bloomington. Unlike UNLV’s defensive battle at Hawaii, this matchup should produce more possessions and scoring opportunities. A game in the neighborhood of 35-27 or 38-24 puts it over the target. Take the Over at 57.5 or better.
Final Picks: UNLV -6.5 and Over 57.5
