USC stumbles through recent run
The Trojans are coming off a run in which they faced three straight ranked opponents, and they came out the other end a little worse for wear after going 1-2 SU. They are still 3-1 SU in conference play, with this game the furthest east they have to come for the remainder of the regular season.
USC’s offense scored a season-low 24 points in their most recent effort. This season, they are averaging 42.4 points per game, second most in the Big Ten and fifth in the nation. Their 530 total yards per game average is the best mark in the country, as is their 326.1 passing yards per game. Jayden Maiava is second in the Big Ten with 2,180 yards and has 15 TDs, 4 INTs and only five sacks against. Makai Lemon leads the conference with 48 catches and is second with 758 receiving yards. The Trojans are 25th in the country and tops in the Big Ten with 203.1 rushing yards per game. Waymond Jordan has 576 yards and 5 TDs on 88 carries.
On defense, USC is giving up 23.1 points per game, 12th in the Big Ten. They are 13th in the conference, giving up 365 total yards per game. Against the pass, they’ve allowed 228.3 yards and against the run, 136.7 yards per game. They are tied for fourth in the conference with 21 sacks and 9 interceptions. Nebraska puts bad loss behind them
The Cornhuskers were able to rebound from a tough loss in Minnesota to beat Northwestern, and they’ve won three of their last four games to become bowl eligible. They sit at 3-2 in the conference standings and have four games remaining, two on the road.
Nebraska comes into this game with the sixth-best scoring offense in the Big Ten, averaging 35 points per game. They gain 401.1 total yards per game, with 272.4 yards coming via the fourth-best passing game in the conference. Dylan Raiola threw less than 200 yards in his last two games but is still sixth in the Big Ten with 1,909 passing yards. The sophomore QB has 17 TDs, 6 sacks, and has been sacked 26 times. Nyziah Hunter has been his top target, catching 33 passes for 525 yards and 5 TDs. Emmett Johnson has 31 catches and is pacing the rushing attack with 837 yards on the ground, second in the Big Ten.
The team sits ninth in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 19.6 points per game. They are giving up only 284 total yards each week, the fifth-best mark in the conference. They have been excellent against the pass, allowing only 127.5 yards per game, second best in the country. Against the run, they are allowing 156.5 yards per game and the Huskers have managed to record 12 sacks and 5 interceptions. Javin Wright has a team-high 52 tackles and has picked up half a sack and an interception. DeShon Singleton has two interceptions and 39 tackles.

- Johnson is eighth in the country in all-purpose yards, averaging 127.4 combined yards per game.
- Kenneth Williams had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last week, the first by a Husker since 2017.
- The Huskers scored a combined seven points in the third quarter of their first four conference tilts before scoring 14 in the third versus Northwestern last week.
- They are sixth in the Big Ten with 176 first downs.
USC vs. Nebraska Picks
Spread Pick for USC vs. Nebraska
- USC -6.5 (4 units)
This has been a one-sided series, though not an extensive one, despite the first meeting coming back in 1969. USC is 5-0-1 SU when facing Nebraska, including a 28-20 win at home last year when they faced off for the first time as conference foes. The Trojans were battle-tested over their last three games but have the added benefit of the bye week, allowing them to rest and recover. Maiava has been one of the top quarterbacks in the country this season and he threw for over 300 yards versus No. 23 Illinois and No. 13 Notre Dame. If Nebraska can limit things on the passing side, USC can bowl them over with the run, and area the Huskers struggle to contain. Both teams played Michigan and Michigan State at home. USC beat the Wolverines, while the Huskers did not, and the Trojans beat the Spartans by 14 points while Nebraska beat them by 11 points. I do very much think this could be a one-score game, but in favor of USC and by at least a touchdown.
Take the Trojans giving the points.
Over/Under Pick for USC vs. Nebraska
- Over 59 (5 units)
These two scored 48 points when they met last season, hitting just under the 51-point total. This year’s matchup features two of the top six scoring teams in the Big Ten, each averaging at least 35 points per game. Both teams are also in the bottom half of the conference in scoring defense. The Trojans boast one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation, averaging over 200 rushing yards per game while also having the top passing offense in the land. They’ve scored at least 31 points in six of their seven games. Nebraska’s offense scored 27 points or more in six of their last six games. The over is 10-5 between the two teams this season.
Take the over.
