The Utah State Aggies travel to Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington, to face the No. 17 Washington Huskies on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET with coverage on Big Ten Network. Utah State enters at 0-1 after a disappointing season-opening loss, while Washington is 1-0 following a 24-10 Apple Cup victory over Washington State. Utah State Needs a Major Response

Utah State's 2026 season couldn't have started much worse. The Aggies entered their opener at home against Idaho State but suffered a 29-17 defeat against the FCS Bengals. Utah State committed four interceptions and was unable to overcome those mistakes despite entering the game as the higher-level program.

Bryson Barnes completed 24 of 38 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown, but he was intercepted four times. Miles Davis led the rushing attack with 62 yards on 13 carries, while Utah State finished with 135 rushing yards and 422 total yards. The Aggies moved the football well enough to score considerably more than 17 points, but turnovers repeatedly destroyed promising possessions.

That becomes an even greater concern this week. Utah State now leaves Logan for its first road game of the season and faces a nationally ranked Washington team at Husky Stadium. The Aggies need much better quarterback play and ball security to remain competitive. Utah State has also historically struggled against ranked opponents, entering this matchup with only six victories in 78 games against AP-ranked teams.

Washington Opens With an Apple Cup Victory

Washington opened its season by defeating Washington State 24-10 at Husky Stadium. The Huskies didn't produce a massive offensive number, but they controlled the rivalry game and held the Cougars to only 10 points.

Demond Williams Jr. completed 21 of 30 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown while adding another score on the ground. Washington finished with 406 total yards, including 138 rushing yards, and averaged 6.1 yards per play. The Huskies also played turnover-free football, an important contrast with Utah State's four-interception opener.

Washington's defense provides the biggest reason to trust the favorite in this matchup. The Huskies allowed only 10 points against Washington State and now face a Utah State offense that turned the ball over repeatedly against FCS competition. Washington doesn't necessarily need an explosive offensive performance to create separation if its defense consistently gives the offense favorable field position.

The setting also favors the Huskies. Washington remains at Husky Stadium for its second consecutive game, while Utah State makes its first road trip after a demoralizing home defeat.

Utah State vs Washington Picks and Prediction

Pick: Washington -21.5 or Better

Without a verified conventional sportsbook spread, Washington -21.5 or better is my target number. Utah State's 422 yards against Idaho State show that the Aggies aren't completely incapable offensively, but four interceptions against an FCS opponent are difficult to overlook before a trip to face the No. 17 team in the country. Washington just held Washington State to 10 points while playing turnover-free football itself. The Huskies have substantial advantages in defensive performance, ball security, home field and overall Week 1 form. I would play Washington through -21.5, but I would become more cautious if the market climbs well beyond three touchdowns.

Pick: Under 52.5 or Higher

The Under at 52.5 or higher is the preferred total target. Washington allowed only 10 points in its opener, while Utah State managed 17 against Idaho State despite producing more than 400 yards. The concern for an Over ticket is that Utah State's mistakes could prevent drives from becoming points again, while Washington showed against Washington State that it can win comfortably without turning the game into a shootout. A Washington victory in the neighborhood of 34-10 or 35-13 fits the matchup and keeps the game below this target. Take the Under if the total is set at 52.5 or higher.

Final Picks: Washington -21.5 or Better and Under 52.5 or Higher
