Can UTSA cause a major conference upset?

This season has been a very inconsistent one for the UTSA Roadrunners, with the team being 4-4 overall on the year with the team going 2-2 in conference play and 1-3 away from home, as it appears they're going to struggle for any type of momentum. Offensively, the Roadrunners have one of the best strengths in college football to rely on as they rank 39th in the nation in rushing yards this season, but with a defense that gives up 401 yards and 30 points per game, it's easy to see why they've failed for consistency.

While UTSA has had success on the ground, rushing for 14 total scores this year, junior QB Owen McCown has thrown for 17 touchdowns to just four interceptions, as he continues to give them the chance to win every game they play in. Last time out for the Roadrunners was a dominant win over Tulane, with 391 yards passing and five total touchdowns through the air, leading an offensive breakout as their defense forced four turnovers on the day, leading them to the 48-26 victory.

Defensively, the Roadrunners have struggled, allowing 459 yards per game (125th) and 289.6 passing yards per game (131st). On offense, they are one of the most dynamic and balanced in the nation, averaging 255.9 passing yards (42nd) and 203.7 rushing yards (24th) per game.

Can South Florida continue their dominant start?

Despite losing last time out, the South Florida Bulls won four straight games before that as they now sit at 6-2 on the season, and with a 3-1 record in conference play in 2025, they sit in fifth place in the American Conference standings. For the Bulls, this season has been all about their offense, with the team ranking 10th in the nation in yards per game at 487, and with 40 points a game, they sit seventh in the NCAA, with a defense that continues to give them chances to win.

The leader of this USF team to this point has been senior QB Byrum Brown, who has led this offense with 17 passing touchdowns and a further eight on the ground, and with 19 rushing TDs overall, this is a team that can dominate any opposition. Last time out for the Bulls was a tough loss on the road to Memphis, with the offense rushing for a very effective 295 yards, and while they had 564 yards of total offense, out-gaining their opposition by over 100 yards, they came up short in a shootout 34-31.

On offense, the Bulls are averaging 487 yards per game (12th) and 225.5 rushing yards (14th). They allow just 115 yards per game on the ground (29th), but 272.4 passing yards (124th).

UTSA Roadrunners vs. South Florida Bulls picks

Moneyline pick for UTSA vs. USF

  • South Florida -14.5 (5 units)

Two years ago, these teams played their first head-to-head matchup, and while the Roadrunners came away winners in that one, it's the Bulls that have been the much more dominant team this season, who have gone 4-0 at home this year.

On top of that, the Bulls have one of the best offensive units in the NCAA, and with the Roadrunners giving up over 30 points a game this season, expect South Florida's offense to thrive in this one, leading the team to a big-time victory.

Over/under pick for UTSA vs. USF

  • Over 67 (4 units)

Simply put, the strength of both these teams in 2025 has been their offense, and with both averaging over 34 points a game this season, this should be a shootout between two of the most exciting QBs and offenses in the entirety of college football.

For the Roadrunners, the over sits at 6-2 in eight games played this season, allowing 35 points a game in four games played away from home, and for the Bulls, the over comes in at 5-3 in their past eight, averaging just under 50 points a game at home this season.

Keep it simple, take the over.
