That resilience should provide confidence before the Commodores head into their first difficult SEC road environment.

There are still concerns. Vanderbilt needed a remarkable finish to escape at home, and Jordan-Hare Stadium presents a different challenge. The Commodores cannot rely on another opponent making a catastrophic late mistake. They need cleaner early execution and cannot again fall behind by 17 points.

Auburn Needs Its Defense to Respond

Auburn’s 44-39 loss to Florida was almost the mirror image of Vanderbilt’s latest game. The Tigers produced 39 points at home, which would normally be enough to win, but their defense could not slow Florida consistently enough to finish the job.

The positive takeaway is obvious: Auburn demonstrated substantial offensive capability against SEC competition. The Tigers should therefore enter Saturday believing they can move the football against Vanderbilt, particularly after NC State built a significant early advantage against the Commodores.
