Demon Deacons Ready to Roll

Quarterback Robby Ashford played well as he completed 24-of-39 passes for 256 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception as well as 13 rushes for 22 yards (1.7 yards per carry) on the day. Wake Forest recorded 19 first downs, but was 6-for-17 on third downs while also going 1-for-1 on fourth down tries. The Demon Deacons struggled as they committed 11 penalties and turned the ball over once.
The defense did enough to get off the field and get stops as the Demon Deacons allowed the Hokies to score 23 points on 263 total yards (111 passing, 152 rushing). The biggest issue was the fact that Virginia Tech was 7-for-17 on third downs. The Hokies averaged just 4.0 yards per pass and completed 50.0% of their pass attempts (14-of-28) throughout the game as well.
Ashford is completing 59.9% of his passes for 1,172 yards with two TDs and four picks this season. RB Demond Claiborne leads the ground attack with 395 yards (7.5 ypc) and seven TDs. Beavers Still Searching for a Win
The Oregon State Beavers are looking to bounce back from last weekβs 27-23 road loss against the App State Mountaineers. Their offense struggled a bit as they recorded 23 points on 456 total yards of offense (358 passing, 98 rushing) while recording 27 total first downs. Quarterback Maalik Murphy finished the game by completing 30-of-45 passes for 358 yards with two passing touchdowns and two interceptions. Their offense actually committed three turnovers (one fumble lost, two interceptions), which was the difference in this game.
The defense allowed 27 points on 354 total yards (218 passing, 136 rushing,) and the team was 4-for-12 on third downs and converted their only fourth-down try against the Beavers. The defense could not force a turnover and allowed 7.8 yards per pass as well as 3.8 yards per rushing attempt. App State scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and held on just enough to win.
Murphy, a transfer from Duke, is completing 59.7% of his passes for 1,523 yards with nine TDs and seven picks this season. WR Trent Walker leads the receivers with 584 yards on 43 receptions (13.6 ypc) and zero TDs. Oregon State has been brutal as they are tied for 122nd in the NCAA with 18.7 points per game. Their defense is allowing 35.0 points per game, which places them 127th in college football. They also allow 427.3 yards per game to rank 119th and they are horrific in stopping the pass, giving up 271.0 passing yards (124th).

Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Oregon State Beavers Pick
Spread Pick for Wake Forest Demon vs. Oregon State
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons -140 (5 units)
This moneyline does not make much sense as the Oregon State Beavers are yet to win a game and are facing a Wake Forest Demon Deacons team that is going to expose them on defense. The only reason is the fact the Demon Deacons have a lot of injuries and a lackluster touchdown-to-interception ratio from Robby Ashford. However, the Beavers are not able to score enough to be competitive in this game. Wake Forest can take down the weak Oregon State defense, so go with Wake Forest to win on the road and improve to 4-2.
Over/Under Pick for Wake Forest Demon vs. Oregon State
- OVER 50.5 (5 units)
These teams should be able to score the football as both teams were able to move the ball well last week. There is supposed to be no precipitation at Reser Stadium at kickoff and this is a game where Robby Ashford should be able to improve his passing numbers, as the Beavers' defense has been struggling to get stops thus far. Maalik Murphy has proven to be a solid force under center, despite it not leading to a win this season. All in all, go with OVER 50.5 POINTS in this matchup.
