Wake Forest vs Louisville Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 26 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/20/2026, 11:20 PM ET

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons visit the Louisville Cardinals in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. This ACC matchup gives Wake Forest another ranked-caliber challenge immediately after its 33-20 loss to No. 5 Miami, while Louisville enters with considerable momentum after defeating No. 16 SMU 41-31. The Cardinals therefore return home after one of their most impressive victories of the young season. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Wake Forest Faces Another Major ACC Test

Wake Forest’s most recent game provided a useful measurement of where the Demon Deacons stand against elite competition. They hosted No. 5 Miami and lost 33-20, remaining competitive enough to avoid being overwhelmed but unable to generate enough offense to seriously threaten the Hurricanes late.

The schedule offers little relief. Louisville just scored 41 against a ranked SMU team, meaning Wake Forest’s defense immediately faces another offense capable of putting substantial pressure on the scoreboard. The Demon Deacons need to prevent Louisville from establishing an early multi-score advantage.

Wake Forest’s path is to reduce the number of possessions and make Louisville consistently execute long drives. A high-tempo game is unlikely to favor the Demon Deacons after the Cardinals demonstrated their scoring ceiling against SMU. Turnovers and red-zone defense become particularly important for the visitor.

Louisville Comes Home With Momentum

Louisville’s 41-31 victory over No. 16 SMU was one of the Cardinals’ most meaningful early-season results. The Cardinals generated 41 points against a ranked opponent and demonstrated they can win when the game becomes offensively demanding.

That performance creates an obvious matchup advantage against Wake ForeState Miami scored 33 against the Demon Deacons, and Louisville has enough offensive firepower to challenge many of the same vulnerable areas. The Cardinals should enter expecting to create scoring opportunities if they protect the football.

The danger is assuming Wake Forest will simply disappear because of the Miami result. The Demon Deacons scored 20 against a top-five opponent and remained competitive for stretches. Louisville needs to avoid an emotional letdown following its ranked victory and establish control rather than expecting the matchup to take care of itself.

Wake Forest vs Louisville Picks and Prediction

Pick: Louisville -10.5 or Better

Louisville’s performance against SMU provides the strongest recent evidence in this matchup. The Cardinals scored 41 against the No. 16 team in the country, while Wake Forest is coming directly off a 13-point home loss to No. 5 Miami. At home and below two touchdowns, Louisville has enough offensive advantage to lay the points.

Pick: Over 52.5 or Lower

Wake Forest scored 20 against Miami, which gives the Demon Deacons a reasonable chance to contribute against Louisville. The Cardinals just scored 41 themselves. If Louisville reaches the low-to-mid 30s, Wake Forest only needs something around 20 points to put the over in play. At 52.5 or below, I’ll lean toward offense.

Final Picks: Louisville -10.5 or Better and Over 52.5 or Lower
