Washington St. vs Kansas State Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 12 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/08/2026, 01:20 AM ET

The Washington State Cougars travel to Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas, to face the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on TNT and HBO Max. This will be the first meeting between the programs. Washington State enters the Kirby Moore era with a difficult opening stretch that includes consecutive road games against Washington and Kansas State. The current market has Kansas State favored by 18.5 points with the total at 52.5. Before placing your wagers, check out our free college football picks for more predictions throughout the season.

Washington State Faces Another Difficult Road Game

Washington State's first two games provide almost no opportunity for the Cougars to ease into the Kirby Moore era. They open against No. 17 Washington in the Apple Cup before immediately traveling to Manhattan to face Kansas State.

The Cougars entered 2026 after finishing last season with a 34-21 victory over Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Washington State was also excellent against the spread last year, finishing 9-4 ATS despite an inconsistent season.

Washington State's challenge is dealing with significant roster turnover while learning new systems on both sides of the football. That becomes especially difficult playing consecutive road games against Power Four opponents. The Cougars need to protect the football and avoid allowing Kansas State to establish control early.

Kansas State Holds a Major Home-Field Advantage

Kansas State enters this matchup with a significant advantage in continuity, depth and home field. The Wildcats also have the benefit of preparing for a Washington State team that will be coming off an emotional Apple Cup matchup only six days earlier.

Bill Snyder Family Stadium has traditionally provided Kansas State with an important home-field advantage, and the Wildcats should have opportunities to establish their running game against a Washington State defense undergoing considerable transition.

The key from a betting standpoint is the size of the spread. Kansas State doesn't merely need to control the game; the Wildcats need to create at least three scores of separation to comfortably cover. Washington State's strong ATS performance last season makes that worth considering before laying the points.

Washington St. vs Kansas State Picks and Prediction

Pick: Washington State +18.5

Kansas State is the more likely winner, but Washington State +18.5 is the preferred betting position. The Cougars went 9-4 against the spread last season and enter this game getting nearly three touchdowns. Playing Washington and Kansas State on consecutive weekends is a brutal opening stretch, but Washington State doesn't need to win this game to cash. If the Cougars can avoid turnovers and generate enough offense to reach the high teens or low 20s, this number provides considerable room. Take Washington State +18.5.

Pick: Under 52.5

The Under 52.5 is my second play. Kansas State should be able to control substantial portions of this game through its ground attack and home-field advantage, while Washington State's best chance to remain within the spread involves shortening the contest rather than trading explosive possessions. A Kansas State victory somewhere around 31-17 or 30-17 fits the matchup. Take Under 52.5.

Final Picks: Washington State +18.5 and Under 52.5
