The Ole Miss Rebels will look to keep themselves in the top five as they face Washington State on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. EST in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Check out our Washington State Cougars vs Ole Miss Rebels pick and prediction here!

Washington State is technically first in the PAC-12, but there are only two teams remaining in the conference. The Cougars have an overall record of 3-2 and they are looking to improve their win streak to two with a win here. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is now ranked #4 in the country thanks to a 3-0 conference record and a 5-0 overall record in the SEC. As good as they are playing right now, any slip up could be the difference as to if they reach the playoffs or not. The Rebels are heavily favored with a 32 point spread while the total is set at 58 points. Can Washington State pull off an upset similar to UCLA against Penn State?

Washington State Wishing for an Upset

Washington State last played Colorado State on September 27th, in which they won by a score of 20-3. Zevi Eckhaus went 16/28 for 189 yards and two touchdowns while Leo Pulalasi rushed for a team-high 50 yards despite only getting three carries. Josh Meredith was the leading receiver with four receptions for 60 yards. Anthony Palano had three tackles and ten tackle assists in the effort while Nilasoni Finau had two sacks on the day. Interestingly, nobody had an interception for the Cougars in the effort.

Jaxon Potter and Zevi Eckhaus are the two QB's that have played for the Cougars this season, with the former slightly ahead in attempted passes. Potter has a 70.5% completion rate while throwing for 604 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Eckhaus is slightly less than that with a 65.3% completion rate, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Kirby Vorhees is the primary rusher for the Cougars, but he has only 156 yards on the year thus far. Eckhaus has two of the three rushing touchdowns for Washington State. Meredith remains the top receiver with 255 yards, but Tony Freeman has caught the most passes with 21. Trey Leckner is the only player to have caught multiple TD passes so far. Among the defense, Parker McKenna has the most total tackles with 33, but he is not ahead by much. Isaac Terrell has the most sacks with 2.5, but nobody has an interception yet for the Cougars. Tucker Large and Jamorri Colson are tied for the team lead with two passes defended each. Hudson Cedarland is the only player listed on the injury report for the Cougars, and he is questionable to play on Saturday.

Rebels Ready to Make a Run

Ole Miss defeated their most recent opponent in LSU by a score of 24-19. Trinidad Chambliss went 23/29 for 314 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while Kewan Lacy led the ground game with 23 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown. Logan Diggs also had a rushing touchdown, and Cayden Lee led the receiving core with 70 yards on four receptions with a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Antonio Kite had four tackles, and William Echoles had a sack on the day. Wydett Williams Jr. was the lone player with an interception for the Rebels.

Chambliss has taken over the reins from an injured Austin Simmons, completing 64.4% of his passes for 1,033 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Simmons is still not 100% healthy, so he'll likely sit again.Β  Kewan Lacy is the only rusher with over 275 yards, and he has 445 along with a team-high eight touchdowns. Harrison Wallace III leads the receivers with 17 receptions for 361 yards and two touchdowns. Jaden Yates has a total of 32 tackles, while Zxavian Harris leads the squad with two sacks. Williams Jr. has the lead in passes defended with four, while he, Harris, and Cedrick Beavers each have one interception on the year. Sanders Jr. and Price are both on the injured list for Ole Miss, but they are both questionable to play this week.

Washington State vs. Ole Miss Pick

Spread Pick for Washington State vs. Ole Miss

  • Ole Miss -32 (4 units)

While the spread may be higher than when I picked them against the spread against Tulane, Ole Miss gives me the confidence with how they've played thus far. The Cougars lost 59-10 to North Texas earlier in the season. If North Texas can beat Washington State by nearly 50 points, I have confidence Ole Miss can run up the score on this one and cover the spread. The Rebels have given up less than 20 points in back-to-back games, and their offense has scored an average of 44.75 points against non-ranked teams this season. I'm taking Ole Miss until they give me a reason not to.

Over/Under pick for Washington State vs Ole Miss

  • Under 58 (4 units)

Ole Miss has had a high-scoring offense thus far, but their defense over the past couple of weeks has stood out to me. Considering they gave up only 19 points to LSU, I am leaning towards the under here. Sure, Ole Miss should run up the score and reach around 40-45 points, but I don't have enough confidence in Washington State to get the necessary points against a top-five team in the country right now. The Rebels have hit the under in their last two games, and the Cougars have only scored an average of 15 points in their two away games this season. I expect them to reach no more than 14 in this one.
