Weber State Brings an Explosive Offense to Boulder
Weber State came up short against Southern Utah, but the Wildcats demonstrated plenty of offensive firepower in the 47-42 loss. Weber State generated 464 total yards, including 282 through the air and 182 on the ground, and carried a 29-20 advantage into halftime.
Nate Dahle threw for 282 yards, while Spencer Ferguson rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Kjar was the biggest weapon in the passing game, finishing with 150 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. Weber State moved the football consistently and scored at least six points in every quarter.
The obvious concern is the defense. Southern Utah scored 47 points and repeatedly found success on the ground, including several explosive rushing plays. That becomes a significant problem against a Colorado offense that showed a renewed commitment to running the football in its opener.
Colorado Finds a New Formula in Atlanta
Colorado’s 14-13 victory over Georgia Tech wasn’t an offensive showcase, but it was an encouraging performance for a team that needed to become more physical. The Buffaloes produced 183 rushing yards and controlled possession for 34:09 while holding Georgia Tech to only 51 yards on the ground.
Julian Lewis completed 14 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown, including the game-winning 20-yard scoring pass to Charlie Williams with 42 seconds remaining. Damian Henderson II led Colorado with 65 rushing yards, Micah Welch added 58 yards and a touchdown, and JaQuail Smith contributed another 42 yards.
Colorado’s defense may be the bigger reason for optimism. Lamont Lester Jr. recorded three sacks, the Buffaloes forced three fumbles, and Boo Carter blocked Georgia Tech’s potential game-winning field goal. Colorado now takes a significant drop in competition and gets its home opener at Folsom Field.
Weber St. vs Colorado Picks and Prediction
Pick: Colorado -21.5 or Better
With conventional odds not consistently posted, Colorado -21.5 or better is my target. Weber State’s offense deserves respect after generating 464 yards at Southern Utah, but allowing 47 points creates a difficult matchup against a Colorado team that just rushed for 183 yards against Georgia Tech. The Buffaloes should have major advantages along the line of scrimmage, and their defense held an FBS opponent to 13 points. If the market stays at three touchdowns or below, take Colorado -21.5 or better.
Pick: Under 55.5
For the total, Under 55.5 is my preferred target. Weber State’s 89-point shootout last week will naturally attract attention toward the Over, but Colorado’s opener produced only 27 combined points. The Buffaloes showed a willingness to lean on their rushing attack, control possession and win with defense. Colorado should score considerably more easily against Weber State, but the Wildcats now face a massive defensive upgrade. Something around 38-13 or 41-10 fits the matchup. Take the Under if the total is set at 55.5 or higher.
Final Picks: Colorado -21.5 or better and Under 55.5 or higher
